Summer Thread -- Good Hockey Writing

OK, so we're officially in the dog days of the offseason, with time to kill and a need for new topics.  I thought a thread dedicated to really good hockey writing would be interesting.  So, if you come across a compelling hockey article, post it here, maybe with a brief description or a quote so we know whether we're interested in clicking and reading.

I'll start us off with 2:

First-person description by Tarasenko of his younger days as a hockey player in Russia, with some great stuff about his grandfather:  https://www.theplayerstribune.com/vladimir-tarasenko-st-louis-blues-nhl/

Great article about Perreault (I've posted this before but wanted to list it here as well):  http://bleacherreport.com/articles/213593-gilbert-perreault-the-forgotten-frenchman

I'mma pin this until we get closer to training camp, just like I pinned the photography thread last year.  Abuse of power?  Maybe.

Game on!

Left wing is still an issue... unless someone young and can step up and play off wing...  I agree  with this guy, too many moving parts. Potential is there...  but D improvement is going to be a work in progress an left wing is a big question mark?  Nice vid by this guy... is that you pi?

Ha, no that's not me.

I tend to agree with his assessment.    Too many questions marks to forecast them as a playoff team.    If it all comes together, it's possible.

10 Up and coming teams in 2017-18 Season

Questionable article.... don't see DAL being much improved with losing guys like Eaves, Eakin, Sharp, Hudler, etc.. I like the Bishop tho, and I think Methot is underrated (he has a very favorable TRpm).

Johan Larsson as an underrated talent?   I don't see it... he can't shoot the puck and offensive awareness is lacking for an NHL player.     Also says they're a playoff team if Lehner stays healthy.    I'm sorry, I'm not buying it.

You don't think we're a potential playoff team?

I agree on Larsson though. He's a dime a dozen player, as is Girgensons. Most of our bottom 6 is.

I thought this thread might be about books to read in the summer about hockey.

My three favorites, if anyone is looking for a book:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_(Dryden_book)

Enjoyment of The Game requires that you are at least as interested in people and society as you are in hockey, and also have some interest and knowledge of 1970's Montreal Canadiens dynasty era game.

The Rebel League - Just plain fun reading about the history of the WHA. Really a different era in hockey and society in general.

http://www.hockeybookreviews.com/2008/09/open-ice-by-jack-falla.html

Open Ice - A beautifully written and thoughtful book. Heartbreaking at times knowing the author passed away shortly after the book's publishing.

One of my favorites, the tragic story of the late Derek Boogaard....

The book about him, Boy on Ice, is incredibly good. And sad.

A lot of parallels to the autobiography by Derek Sanderson, Crossing the Line.

And Malarchuk's book, A Matter of Inches.

Haunting stuff.

Not a read, but I recommend the documentary series Hockey: A People's History. Good stuff.

This has to be one of the most Canadian paragraphs in print:

"My locker was next to Marian Hossa’s when I came into the league. He actually recognized me from like seven years before — when he was still playing for the Ottawa Senators and I was just a lowly equipment boy, doing laundry and filling water bottles in exchange for high school credits."
