LTS Posted July 28 Report Posted July 28 You just never know. I don't watch the news, there's literally nothing interesting about it. It's either biased or reporting on stuff that will only wear me down on how terrible society is. So, I received a text yesterday morning from a family member asking if my son was okay and safe. I had no idea why he wouldn't be as to the best of my knowledge he was still sleeping in his room. (He was actually still there, until I woke him up at 12:30pm because he had to be somewhere at 1pm. But this post isn't about that.) So I asked why.. and I was sent a link to a person being shot and killed at the Wegman's warehouse in Rochester. This is the same warehouse my son works at and the article said someone in their 20's was shot and killed. Well, my son is in his 20's. He would have been walking out of work at the time the shooting happened, had he not called in sick that day because he wasn't feeling well. Now, from the original article, and certainly the updates this morning, it sounds very targeted. That said, I am thankful my son only has to live with knowing it happened versus being there when it happened. They arrested the alleged shooter in Knoxville, TN. You just never know in this world. I don't dwell on it. I've had a gun put into my chest. It's never of a matter of if we'll die but when we'll die. That said... no one should have to go through these things. They are not things people should have to "process". So, about those Sabres... yeah, can't get worked up over it. 3 Quote

shrader Posted Monday at 03:50 PM Report Posted Monday at 03:50 PM Those childproof doorknob covers? My 3 year old just figured them out. Working from home has been an adventure thanks to all the noise, but now we've entered a new level. Quote

Weave Posted Wednesday at 12:54 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 12:54 PM A couple evenings ago, my son and his wife became aware of a dog wandering the streets. I guess it was pretty obviously dumped in the neighborhood. Someone took it off the street to keep it safe, but wasn’t able to hold it. My son tracked down a rescue group that agreed to step in. He has decided to foster it, get it crate and house trained, and healed up. It has open wounds on its paws pads and appears to have some sort of skin issue/infection. If it goes well, the kids may adopt it themselves, but for now have committed to fostering it in preparation for someone to adopt it. I am proud as hell that these kids are so good hearted, but man, they have some work cut out for them. Its an adult dog that was never trained and is minimally socialized. 5 2 Quote

Your son shows compassion, you and your wife did good. Yes, they have a lot of work ahead and i hope they can get the dog healthy again. Twelve years ago my son found a Pit Bull puppy that was discarded on the streets. I did not like it at the time but he took him in. He took him to the vet and got him healthy. He trained him and he had a great companion until April when the dog passed away. That dog was good for him. Quote
Doohickie Posted Wednesday at 07:13 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:13 PM Of the dogs we've had: Rat terrier mix from Humane Society A very overweight golden retriever from GR Rescue A stray puppy (looked like somewhere between a Pomeranian and a Golden) we took in after it fell into a friend's pool A stray beagle puppy that followed my sons home A stray hound-shepherd mix puppy that also followed sons home A stray heeler puppy that followed my wife home And my son's (who lives with us) dog, a border collie mix from Ft Worth Animal Control They just seem to find us. My wife says when the current dogs cross the rainbow bridge, no more. I'm not ready to accept that but I don't argue with her about it. If nothing else I would like to foster dogs, particularly older ones. Quote
LTS Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago Traded in my car today for something new. Gone is the used car loan and in is a nice 0% for 60 deal and not even on an EV! Love that. I would have posted this in the Fantastic Friday thread but apparently @spndnchz has an early bed time and locked the thread early. 🙂 My 2019 Subaru Forester was... okay. But I never had the love for it. Naturally 6 hours into the new car I can't derive a solid opinion, but I'm not upset. So.. cheers! Quote

shrader Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago Is anyone out there one of those people that walks along the side of the shopping cart instead of pushing it? If yes, why? Quote
