Trade ideas and speculation

From Friedman's 30 Thoughts

Winnipeg’s got the big fish. The focus in Buffalo is on the rentals, but if it’s true that clubs are willing to give more for term, Tim Murray has younger players under team control. Toronto is like the Duke brothers at the end of Trading Places.

McGinn has 27 points.  Chicago's 2nd line players range from 33-28 points right now.  Dallas's is a bit above that.  McGinn is putting up legit 2nd line points compared to two of the best teams in the league.  And he's doing it on one of the worst teams in the league.  He is definitely 2nd line talent.

http://www2.dailyfaceoff.com/teams/lines/19/chicago-blackhawksThe Blackhawks second line is arguably the best scoring line in hockey. Kane alone makes their second line average 28 points.

Surprised nobody is upset that Barrie appears to be resigning with an incompetent Avs' organization. Someone on here absolutely loved that guy

Poor man's Erik Karlsson. Maybe homeless man's Erik Karlsson...but that's more of a commentary on how ridiculous Karlsson is than anything about Barrie.

I knew you wanted him, because I know of your justified man-crush on Karlsson. But there was another person.

According to that report Barrie will only get around $6m per, sound fair?

People's ability to actively desire other teams best players baffles me to this day.

Well, we're talking about the same organization that wanted to trade Duchene, did trade ROR, and has Roy as a HC. Not too far fetched in context

Yup, and gives me great hope for Risto's contract coming in under the ~$7.5 million I was expecting.

Regarding Ennis, I think that it's just the bite of unrequited hope.

Ennis (and Foligno, Myers, and many more) are useful NHL players that didn't become what our first impressions led us to hope they would become.

With respect to Ennis, this is not true for me. He actually has exceeded my expectations for him in most respects. Except for this recent concussion, which, unfortunately, I expect nearly every under-sized NHL'er to suffer these days. He's a good player; more tenacious and physical then I had expected, and more fearless. His point production when adjusted for time-off is about where I expected it to be.

The problem I have with Ennis is that no matter what version Sabres team, he seems out of place. For Bylsma's dump and chase system, he will really be out of place, and/or, maybe worse, likely to suffer yet another serious injury. We have the tricky right-place-at-the-right time centers who, I think, are (way) better at it, and (knock on wood) have better vision and IQ enough to avoid a serious injury, to go with their sizes.

We have at least one winger with jets who can win battles on the board and wing the puck across the slot willy-nilly. We need more of that kind of guy who has better vision, and isn't likely to get beat to a pulp trying to accomplish their mission. Ennis is not any of that. He's like Kane without the size or the ability to drop a guy when necessary. I'm not saying we need all muscle, of course, but Ennis is a "skill guy" and that's all he really brings. When he's out, we're missing a "skill guy", plain and simple, and Ennis, again, is likely to be more out than not in today's NHL, playing Bylsma's system, on a team that is trying to become "tough to play against".

Jamie McGinn would likely be a well liked rental to a great many teams come deadline day,

At 50% retained he'd be only a 1.475 cap hit who plays very well with with good centers. Not to mention he may return in the off season thus being even better for us.

Teams that could be interested:

CHI (1st no 2nd), BOS (2 1sts, 2 2nds not theirs) and any other playoff borderline team.

McGinn(50%) could fetch anywhere from a low 1st to a high 3rd varying on his play going into the Deadline.

Ideal type of move: McGinn(50%) & 3rd for other team's 1st (CHI strikes me as potentially a good spot to pull this off, if they can get the cap space)

Hopefully at least: McGinn(50%) for other team's 2nd

Other potential candidates:

Mike Weber - UFA - 1.66mil (50% = 833k) Great price for a depth D-man = Anywhere from a 3rd to a 5th (Comes down to play and the market in general)(Slightly higher due to age)

Carlo Colaiacovo - UFA - 900k (50% = 450k) Similar to Weber just slightly different package of skills. = 4th to a 6th (Lower than Weber due to age)

Johan Larsson - RFA - 800k (50% = 400k) Potentially skilled bottom 6 forward with a bit of depth position identity crisis. Good at pestering the other team and playing dirty = 2nd to 4th (Not exactly sure, I get many different values for him from other boards and I myself am torn on his spot on the team going forward)

David Legwand - UFA - 3mil (50% = 1.5mil) Old guy, been through a lot, might still be useful for depth on a playoff team. = 4th or lower (Granted Nashville might give us a 1st if we ask nicely :)  )

Cody Franson - 3.325mil + 1 year (50% = 1.65mil) Powerplay specialist with a year to go on his contract. = Unknown at this time (The market could say anything from a 1st to a 4th, matters greatly on his play and desperation)

Called it sort of

So, this thing is just ###### awesome. Take all of the tweets (legitimate ones) and puts them in a scroll box so you can view every rumor for the deadline. Some notable ones:

Oilers: Willing to move and retain salary on Schultz, Yak and others are available

NJ: Kovie return?

TB: 10-15 teams interested in Drouin

There are players out there to be had, it’s just whether Murray can make a deal that he views as fair for the future of his team. The Sabres have shown interest in Arizona Coyotes forward Mikkel Boedker according to sources, and The Fourth Period has said that Murray has shown interest in Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner. I can only imagine a trade talk with the Oilers.

GM: So, I hear you guys are open for business? I'm really looking at RNH and Eberle as options, and I have defensive pieces I'm willing to part with.

Chiarelli: You don't want those guys, they're overrated and overpaid. Who you really want are Schultz and Yakupov. Elite offensive talents!

GM: Actually no, Pete, I don't want them. I want the players who are good. Let's talk RNH in light of your logjam at center.

Chiarelli: Right, sorry, I'm distracted trying to fix another lottery. Anyway, I think I'm willing to part with Nikitin or Hendricks for the right price.

GM: Look, Pete, I don't want to be rude, but your coach just exploded saying huge changes might need to be made. I called hoping to help facilitate a deal that gets you what you want while helping my club.

Chiarelli: Yakupov it is!

I'm curious, why not? At least Skinner has some numbers to back up his play

I can't stand him, at all. He puts up Ennis numbers but is more expensive, and unlike Ennis, he's not willing to take abuse to score, he dives all over the place, and acts like he's going to be shot by a sniper if he approaches an area where he might be within 15 yards of another body. And his stupid face is oh so punchable. He's everything everyone always hated about Derek Roy, except he dives more and produces less, all while managing to be a black hole defensively. He disgusts me.
