I graduated from LewPort HS in 1971.

and yes, the Aud had a unique aroma.

Buy an alcoholic chain-smoking uncle's barcalounger on EBAY, puncture a cornelius keg of soda-pop syrup and let it leak awhile, throw a quarter cup of bleach into your carpet, burn some poporn in the mircowave, wrap a bar rag with a slightly vomity smell around your neck, and splash on some Aqua Velva, and you can recreate the Aud Smell Orange section for your gameday enjoyment right in your own living room.

Mine is just my nickname from college. When I was a freshman, I brought 34 boxes of (Wegmans brand) cereal to school. It only took like two weeks to get branded for life.

As a bonus, I have been #34 for my sports team jerseys most of the time for the same reason as above.

we kick this around from time to time -- but it's a subject worth re-visiting, and i'm game for it.

for those who were fortunate enough to attend games at the old barn, my screen name is self-explanatory -- it was that specific aroma that inhabited the entire building, but especially those cement rampways that you took from the street level to the upper golds, reds, and blues (you needed stairs to access the oranges, of course).

for those too young or who otherwise never saw a game at the aud, the place had a distinctive smell to it that was a product of boiled hot dogs, (spilled) beer, cigarette smoke (both current smoke and the build-up of tar and nicotine in the building itself), popcorn oil, peanuts, and, this is key, a crappy ventilation system.

with the way modern buildings are built, you don't get quite the same experience any more.

you could think about changing your screen handle to onaboat ... or flippy-floppies.

Whenever I ref a game at Hersheypark Arena, it has the exact same smell.

When I was in H.S., I used to be a big WWE fan, and I was so small (5'11, 120 lbs) that a bunch of my buddies would joke around and call me Pebble, as opposed to The Rock...19 was my baseball number for all of school.

It's been my username just about everywhere now.

Mine is a lyrical acronym for "What a long strange trip it's been..." - by Garcia, Weir, Lesh & Hunter

Chosen because it summarizes my experience (and perhaps yours??) as a Buffalo sports fan old enough to have collected an allowance for shoveling out my driveway after the Blizzard of '77.

I truly hope to see you all in Lafayette Square celebrating a championship (or several) in the not too distant future...In which case, I may change my handle to "Sunshine - Daydream". Fingers crossed!!

I had been lurking SabreSpace for months. I felt I absolutely had to start posting last spring after the Gerbe headpat incident by Carcillo. I wasn't feeling too creative so I just chose that event.

Also, as someone could guess by the majority of my posts, he is my favorite Sabre.

I could get clever and invite chz or biodork to find out...

Oh, I slay myself. The real reason should be obvious.

Now I'm afraid to ask....

Mine is fairly obvious given my avatar, but I started using it in college as a hybrid of my major (bio) and nickname (dork). I originally considered "bionerd", but fortunately someone else in cyberspace was even geekier than I was and had already taken it. :bag:

Mine was a nickname I inherited from my brother and comes from my last name. And no, I'm not related to Soupy. Like me, he didn't really like "Soupy" as a nickname. He preferred Rusty, but when you're a rookie in the AHL, you really don't get to pick your nickname, and Soupy stuck

Anyway, my nickname was Lil' Campy long before Wayne grabbed the Lil'.. And it's not because I'm not gangsta enough, because, you know, I bang hard (ya' feel me?), but eventually the Lil' was dropped.

HS class of '86 and I remember that Aud smell...

Easy one for me... my name is Tom and I live in Toledo.

In reality, I carried it over from my TSW name - I was at the University of Akron in 98 when I joined TSW (which was just the twobillsdrive.com forum back then prior to Shout forums - and a more civilized board). Now I live in Medina. Oh, and yes my name is Eric.

Is it wrong that one of my reasons for choosing UB was it's vicinity to my boys in blue and gold?

... as someone who also has enjoyed UB (although lately they piss me off) NO. Its a good University and it is a great place for sabres fans to go to college.

My birth name is Connor MacLeod. Many seasons ago I battled DeLuca66 on the highlands of the Delaware S-Curves. It was a long and arduous battle that nearly killed me. I was fortunate enough to take advantage of the slimmest of openings and beheaded DeLuca66. At that moment the heavens opened and lightning struck and I became DeLuca67. Pretty standard really.

hmmmmmm....Ohiofan. Now that it has been brought to my attention in this thread, I am slightly embarassed by the boringness of my username.

I live in Ohio now. And I am still a fan.

sigh...

On a happier note I remember that Aud smell to this day. The only difference in the smell between a Sabre game and a concert was maybe a little more of a urine smell during concerts. And more pot. Definitely more pot.

And during the blizzard of 77 my sister and I had to shovel ourselves OUT of the house before we could even attempt to shovel the drive, which we did for three days waiting for my dad to make it home from his workplace in South Buffalo.
