My co-worker and her husband move all over the world, living in Airbnb's for 1-3 months at a time. They use Airbnb to find the property, then contact the owner directly, proposing alternate terms (no service fees), and usually get it cheaper than the listed price, as Airbnb isn't taking a cut. What I don't get about Risto is that the vast majority of Sabres fans and analytics junkies on twitter all say the guy is trash. So why do we expect to get anything serviceable for him in return? Every team is privy to the same info that shows he's been one of the worst performing defensemen (analytically) over the past few years.

I live in a relatively rural area about 40 minutes from Charlotte. As of last night we had zero gas stations with gas. Late this afternoon one of them received a shipment. Over 70% of Charlotte's gas stations were out. It was 100% caused by panic buying morons.

I bet none of them thought twice about it. They were all convinced the team would be pushing for a playoff spot, so this was a no brainer... if all it took to get Hall to agree to come to Buffalo was a NMC, then everyone said "yes, of course!"

If this is Hall + Sheahan for that return, I don't think it's a terrible trade. I think there's little to no interest in Hall out there, and didn't imagine getting more than a 2nd for him. Adding Lazar makes no sense to me.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for punishment and keep following along. Oddly enough it's one of the few things that keep my old man and I in regular contact. The highlight of my youth is going to games with him in the late '80's/early 90's, sitting up in the oranges. Now we text back and forth while watching the games, complaining about how no one seems to give a crap, and longing for the days when, they may not have won the cup, but damn if it wasn't fun to watch. Jack just seems so "meh." Everyone gave him a pass for the attitude and body language over the years, but I'm to the point where I think he is as much of the problem with this team as anything else, if not more. You're right, my bad... got my years mixed up. To be honest, I don't even know what year it is anymore, they all just blur together. They definitely don't need to rush into a deal, but I would imagine the return will never be as high as this offseason.

I haven't posted here in ages, but I actually think Jack is part of the problem at this point. If he's the captain, then he should be leading by example, but he's been invisible. The coach is supposed to be this master motivator and this team is flatter than a week old two liter. I think Jack wanted out, so the Pegulas nixed Botts, brought in KA, and he went with the Hail Mary and brought in Hall to try and show him some good faith. It obviously isn't working. There's no better time then now to move Jack. His NTC kicks in after this season, and he'll hold the bargaining chips on where he ends up. I wouldn't trade him for nothing (see: O'Reilly), but I think they could legitimately get some quality pieces and not just picks/prospects. Jack comes across as being ultra competitive, which is great, but the body language, which is always dismissed, says he's done. It's time to move on while they can get maximum return.

Not going to take sides in any sort of COVID related discussion, just contributing a story... this pandemic has practically, and literally, killed the company I work for. We organize international trade shows. A once robust company of 10 employees has been reduced to 5. We've been able to keep the company "alive," through some new virtual events we're developing. We usually coordinate 20-30 trade events per year, all overseas. This year, every single event we're involved in has been canceled or postponed to 2021 or later. Oddly enough, the only event on target to actually occur, will be one in China at the end of September. Between that and the new virtual developments, we've been able to keep the company afloat for another 6 months or so, but that's after 25% paycuts for the 3 executives back in April and laying off 4 staff members. The stress of managing this whole disaster took its toll on the owner of the company and he succumbed to a massive heart attack last Tuesday. He was 64, great health, no known issues, and gearing up for his retirement in April. Now his daughter and I are picking up the pieces, trying to keep things chugging along, and holding out hope for better days ahead. I'm not sure what the answer is to get over COVID. I have clients in Sweden who think they've handled it horribly. I have clients here in the US who think we're handling it horribly, some say too many restrictions, while some say not enough. I have clients in China who say everyone's screwing this up except for them. I just want to wake up and have life return to normal.

Thanks for all the recommendations and advice. Per @Eleven's suggestion, I have looked into some non-MBA master's degrees that are a little more appealing to me. A lot of my work is in the agriculture sector, so I've started looking into MS in Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics; also, my alma mater offers an MS in International Business. What I like most about what I do now is the global nature of the business, and wherever I end up in the future I would want it to have that same international focus. Does anyone have any opinions on how an MS in International Business would be perceived to an employer vs. a MBA? @Tondas I also appreciate your suggestion of gaining experience at a larger company. This is something I have definitely looked into and will continue to do so.

Welcome and thanks for chiming in! That's a hurdle for me. I live in a major city (Charlotte), but the only local MBA programs are in-person, and I can't do that. I have other school options 2-4 hours from Charlotte that offer fully online MBAs, but I've heard you lose those networking benefits when doing an MBA online. I have no plans to leave the Charlotte area for 7-10 years at least.

Part of me wants to do it, and part of me doesn't. Overall, I'd probably rather not do it, to be honest, but I don't see how I can maintain the same income level without it, were I to leave my current job (by my choice or management's). The other plus side to doing it is that down the road I would really like to teach part-time at the community college/small college level, which would require a master's degree. That has always been a "winding down my career" interest of mine.

A friend of mine got his MBA at Georgia Tech right after he finished undergrad, and he pretty much said the same thing - go big or go home. He said no one cares if you have one from a smaller state or private school (he works in HR for a major bank), it's all about the name of the school on the diploma.

Thanks for the feedback so far, I appreciate it. Most of what you've all said is in line with how I'm leaning. Whether or not I get the MBA won't impact my earnings at all with my current position (my boss says it's a waste of money), so there'd be no financial help in paying for it from my current employer either. I guess it just comes to down to the estimated cost vs. potential earnings if I leave and move elsewhere. Because of my current job, I travel a lot internationally, I have to find something that's 100% online and flexible. In-state programs that would work for me, include UNC Chapel Hill (~$100k), NC State ($46k), UNC Greensboro ($20k), UNC Wilmington ($15k). I can't justify paying $100k. I'm still paying off around $18k in undergrad loans, and would like to keep the MBA cost as low as possible, plus my wife is graduating with her Bachelors next month, so now we'll have to pay off $30k in her loans ? My two eldest step sons will be graduating high school in the next two years, but they'll probably join the military or just join the workforce.

Looking for some career-oriented advice here, and thought of no better place to get some opinions. I'm 39, currently a VP of Sales & Marketing for a small company (12 employees, $3-5 million in revenue annually). I've been here for almost 12 years and am essentially the #2 person in the company. The owner is planning to retire by the end of 2021, and I tried to buy the company from him back in April, but it fell through 3 days before closing (investor I brought in backed out). So, he decided to give the company to his daughter. Now we're trying to transition leadership. I like what I do, am in a niche industry, but wonder if I could do more/better for myself elsewhere, plus I'm not convinced I can work here long term with the new "leadership." The job market has been really good here in Charlotte for the past 2 years and I've put plenty of feelers out there for similar VP-level jobs (or Director-level at large companies) and I get nowhere. Everything I apply for says MBA preferred, which I don't have (I have a BS and BA). I've had one interview, facilitated by a friend, and they basically said my experience was too niche for them. If I stay here for the long haul, I don't really see a need for an MBA, but if I want to look elsewhere I almost feel like I need to have one. Is this really the case? If I do go the MBA route, I'm not going to spend $70-100K, because I don't think I'll make the money back based on what I'm making now, but some people I've spoken to say if you don't go to a top school then don't bother. I'm considering some mid-level state schools offering online MBAs that cost $15-20k, but is this even worth it? I'd rather not waste my time and money (still paying off student loans from undergrad) if it's not something that will pay dividends. If anyone has thoughts/opinions/advice on this I'd love to hear it!

I'd be all for Vellucci. He's had success as a head coach for many years in the OHL and AHL, plus front office experience in the NHL. He's orchestrated a complete turnaround here in Charlotte, with largely the same cast of characters, and those he's worked with that have been called up to Carolina have done well. He has a knack for working with younger players.

Everything that goes on within PSE seems to be bizarre.
