Sabres Suggestion Box

And c) would they ever have the NHL Awards in Vegas? :)

I see your point, but that's a postseason awards show with no games on the line. At that point the Vegas lights and shows and entertainment (and gambling) are not distractions for a team in town for 1-3 days (depending on travel arrangements) in the midst of either the regular season or playoffs.

I just think the black eye the Rick Tocchet and Janet Gretzky thing would make the NHL very, very nervous about teams staying in a casino hotel during the season.

so the hotel doesnt have a casino... lets not get hung up on that lets think how awesome a Sabre Run hotel would be for ppl from out of town comin in to watch games to the teams themselves staying near the arena in a nice place.

I tried submitting useful suggestions as opposed to complaints. But, I think it's a great idea. I'm sure they are going to get a lot of good ideas and crap. If they want to hear complaints, they can just turn on the radio and listen to GR all day long.

Kill rock my like a hurricane song I hear this at RBC Center or on Pandora and puke.

Agreed. I have been saying that since 2006. I'm also sick of "Shipping up to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys. They even play it when we play Boston, in the PLAYOFFS! I remember when LQ was asked about it and he said he heard it in "the Departed" and just had to hear it before our Power Plays. He didn't even bother to find out the name of it.

I did suggest that the Sabres practiced at Lasker Rink in Central Park before a Rangers game, considering I live in NYC and work in Central Park. There are a TON of Sabres fans in NYC.

Keep food prices the same - who eats anything other than popcorn and peanuts at the arena anyway?

That reminds me, someone else posted similar- I would eat at the arena all the time if HSBC had:

Mighty Taco

Ted's Hot Dogs

Charlie the Butcher

Duff's (or Anchor)

La Nova Pizzeria (or similar)

Hoak's

Parkside Candy

Sweet Jenny's Ice Cream

We'd have the best arena food anywhere, and that isn't homer-talk, that'd be the truth.

Sabre fans are everywhere just like Bills fans.

Anybody happen to have a link to a list of out of town Sabre backers?

I'm guessing that the Delaware North/SportService contract may prevent outside food vendors from coming in. Something for Black to look into.

Isn't there a Red Osier cart somewhere? But you are right, at least until the contract is up. I would reconsider eating at the rink if that menu was available!

So....it's a hotel. That's gonna revitalize downtown? I'm not trying to be smartass, really. I'm just asking. I like the idea of a casino downtown. I really do. Everyone else has it, Buffalo might as well too, and I think it could be a key component toward re-energizing the area around the arena. (On the other hand it could stay a ###### hole like the area around the Niagara Falls casino.) I'm just saying that the idea of it being part and parcel with the Arena and having opposing teams stay there....well that's opening a big can of worms, one that the NHL probably won't want to be associated with.

But I like your line of thinking. Out of the box.

Which reminds me, why doesn't Delaware North or Rich Products advertise on Sabres' games or on the boards? (and yes, I know that Delaware North's Jacobs brothers own the Bruins, But they're both "Buffalo" based companies. You'd think they'd show a little civic pride.

I am not sure alone it would revitalize anything but it would be a hotel next to the arena for people to stay. It would have an ballroom and such, maybe even a sabres museum? and Idk about a casino but I am curious as to why people think the NHL would be against it? Would it be just if there was a casino or a hotel in general? I doubt they would do it so its a little irrelevant. As far as the area around the arena and hotel well its already had some nice development but maybe a hotel right there would lead to a aquarium and a museum (buffalo museum of science could move) and maybe a little restaurant shopping area where taste of buffalo could be held. It is way outside the box and I apologize beforehand if it seems illogical but it was just an idea.

What about trying to get "songs" as part of our culture? Sing and chant like soccer team fans abroad do?

It'd be awesome to get a segment of the fans to sing something like, I don't know....."All in all it's just a....nother save for Mil-ler" or something. (off the top of my head, lol)

That's good.

Ever see the YouTube clip of fans of some English soccer team singing "You'll never walk alone" before the game? I have it saved in my bookmarks. It's the coolest thing.

I don't think Sabre fans -- or American sports fans in general -- have this in 'em.

There's not even a chant of Mill-er in the arena. Nor was there ever a chant of Hah-sheck that I recall either.

Might be more of a testament to how the fans percieve the recent team members. Rob Ray was loved and his name was chanted during the Hasek years. I vividly recall fans chanting Larry Playfair's name in the Aud.

Or maybe it is more about fan bloodlust that the 2 biggest ruffians in Sabre history are the ones whose names were chanted.

Something to intimidate the opposing team like the Winkie Chant from The Wizard of Oz ("O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!." ) or a Zulu War chant.

With all four pages existing so far in this thread, I clicked each hoping the conversation of the hotel/casino would finally be gone. Wrong. The original idea was fun and outside the box as someone said, but now you're talking about it as though they broke ground on it already. Do you really think Pegula is going to take your suggestion and go drop $80 Million plus into building a casino/hotel?

As for people complaining about the music; it's the same in every rink around the league. The crowds at sporting events are extremely diverse, and for every one song you dislike, there is likely someone there that likes it, and vice versa. With that said, what is with rink A/V guys still being into nu-metal like POD?

On that note though, I recall other sports teams consulting the players on the music they want to hear in-game. Playing a Center's favorite pump up song before he takes an important faceoff, etc. does a lot to energize your on ice product. I know a lot of teams do this for shootouts too, not sure if Buffalo is one of them.
