Trade deadline? Are the Sabres buyers or sellers?

Well first off I am not reporting what Eklund is saying. I am posting what I am thinking based on what is going on and our history with San Jose. If you wanna read Eklund do it. This is for thoughts and ideas and those were mine. I know that Pavelski will in all likelyhood not become a sabre but it is a possibility and that was my point. I was looking at teams with Center depth and landed on SJ and behold they may be claiming rivet interesting...

Ok heres what I am thinking now. Rivet is on re-entry waivers and should get claimed by San Jose. They will be responsible for 1.75mil and that goes to their cap (I think right?) Then We are going to trade them stafford and a 3or2rnd pick for Pavelski. Then We are gonna tade Connolly to Phoenix for a 2nd and conditional 3rd rnd pick.

That reumor originated on hockeybuzz, therefore making it completely untrue.

What's your point? At the deadline the light bulb is going to come on as they realize they can't win a Cup this year(much like past years) and just start trading away their best assets?

Not without trading away one or two of their top players for Rivet!

SJ is poised to make a run at the Cup, yet people here are cherry picking the best players off their roster. Ek has nothing on some of the posters here(not just you KTN4GM).

Good call.

I am going to Clarify. I read on Eklund that Rivet was on rentry waivers and SJ might be his destination. I had previously posted that I thought Sj was a good trade Partner as for this team because of their center depth. Finally I took the idea of SJ asking us to waive Rivet and rentry him so they could claim him and we could trade and the math works out for them to take stafford whom they could use to make a cup run as they need wing help especially on RW. That is all. I have no clue if this is true its just a thought that I had about it and to trade with SJ now would be a difficult thing because they are making a run but they are outclassed by vancouver.

Go back and reread my post. I didn't say you were posting something Ek reported.

Nothing wrong with identifying players from other teams that would greatly improve the Sabres.

I think they have a team lined up for him already. I'm guessing Vancouver with all of the injury problems over there on D.

That or Moe-ray-all is where I was thinking he was headed, but according to our resident Kelowna Rockets & Van-city fan RickShaw; the 'Nucks are starting to get their D-men back healthy. I'd trust his opinion on that one.

Pittsburgh on the other 'hand' might be looking for some cheap depth right now.

Per Spector

Hmmmm, Avs want a young goalie? I wonder if Enroth is too young for them? And what might it take to pull Stasny from them?

I'm not sure what to think about John-Michael Liles. Lots of points, not much defence.

I'd take Liles. PP specialist, bury him as a 5/6 defenseman on the depth chart.

ok heres what the truth is. Rivet will go on rentry waivers tomorrow most likely. If and only IF SJ claims him do I see a deal with them. Interesting though that darcy waited so long to make this move. Well Eklund has nothing on a pavelski to buffalo deal hes been right twice this week most recently with kovalev so I think hes been a bit better this year. Well goodnight cant wait for ottawa tomorrow!

Hahahahha, you have 95 posts and 91 of them are about SJ picking up Rivet and then some trade we therefore will make with them afterwards. Not sure if it's a hunch or what but you seem really gun hoe on it happening. Likely won't happen but who knows? Let's get a big win tomorrow night because don't look now but the Leafs are only a point back of us.

Holy crap! I haven't noticed the Leafs are on a little run. I've been too amazed with what the Devils have done.

A friend of mine and myself were speaking on the young Stastny and he too, brought up Liles. Apparently Liles is good friends with Miller so he told me.

I'm not against taking on an offensive defenseman if Leopold is going the other way.

Someone gave me a real neat site with contracts (Weave, I think it was, sorry if I didn't get the name right, but thanks for the informations again), Capgeek, I started looking at the numbers, and he is more expensive, but he has produced more as an O-defenseman more consistantly than Leopold has across his career.

Anyways, I was looking at this from that angle is all.

I still think Connolly doesn't get moved. DR still loves him and even though he will have to part ways with him after the season, he will convince himself and others in the organization that Connolly is worth more to them than a draft pick come the deadline.

The trouble with moving Connolly isn't love, it is getting a center coming back somehow.
