If an entire game was ES while rolling 4 lines the ice time would be closer. There would be some situational differences and some possible match up scenarios leading to imbalances. Special teams probably makes the largest overall difference. The hottest line in any given game should get a bump up, a good coach will sense that and adjust.

Fantastic game. I missed the first due to my son’s game, but it was worth rushing home. Young lad put on his Reinhardt sweater and joined me and my beer. Solid effort and playing with a purpose. They are supporting each other and seem to be having a blast. I don’t wish any adversity on them but it is bound to happen and RK will guide them through that too. Cant wait for the next game.

Pacioretty doesn’t have 4 years left of productive hockey.

I like the idea of Asplund at 3C. A 200’ game with some offensive skill. Tage could be the rifle on PP2, he just needs to round out his game more to have a role in the top 9.

Hughes looked pretty small. Roslovic drilled him into the Jets bench, and he’s not a big guy. The OT was suited to his game. Hall and Hischier are way more dangerous players.

You’re right on the sales part of the process. I think most coaches at this level have a good grasp of strategy and tactics, motivating the players to play hard and to buy into the plan is a big part of it. I think that is where RK’s strength is. By getting to truly know his players they have more trust in him and they can have honest conversations about expectations.

I watched the Devils game. They came out flying but were fragile by the third, when the Jets were going for broke. If the Sabres bring a 60 minute effort, they will win. Blackwood is not an NHL #1 goalie in my opinion. Let’s go Buffalo!

My take is he is gone in the fifth season of his deal. He will not extend and the Leafs don’t want to lose him for nothing.

If the Sabres win the lottery look for JBot to trade the pick because the top prospects are from the CHL. Kidding, I’m thinking they have a shot at the playoffs and I don’t have to read draft lists until May.

His prime years were in the KHL. His best NHL season is 33 points in 61 games in 2013-14. He is not a second line player. If that is where RK plays him, it cannot last more than a game or two.

And being snubbed for the C will make him pout and he will be gone in 5 years when he hits UFA status.

It looks like he is being given a great opportunity on the top line. I think 25-30 is within reach if he stays there. His 30 in the AHL are against weaker competition, but he did not have a guy like Jack feeding him either. The Sabres PP will be improved and VO’s skills will be a part of it.

Matthews may be leaving in 5 years as well. The only guy I can stand from their leadership group is Rielly.

Leafs are talking about naming a captain and he is in the mix. This could blow up.

The elimination of the middle class. I wonder how good of a team you could assemble with 20 x $4M players. You could possibly get 12 forwards who can score 10-20 goals.

I would think that rule would only apply to North Americans in the CHL. If he was in said draft isn't he an import?

I cannot stand Greg Millen, he is a Leaf Blower, par excellence. Another "fact" he stated was that Dubas had assembled a team that could fly, every player on his team can flat out fly. Ben Harpur makes Okposo look like a Ferrari so I dispute that claim. His voice just hurts my ears.

I can see Lazar on the 4th line, he's a big body and hustles. Olofsson didn't do much but he looks confident with the puck. I am hoping Asplund has a good showing, but not so far.

Glad Miller's earlier shot to Jack's back was a knuckleball.
