  1. I did not see them. I think politicians are petty. If nothing else Trump is uncaring enough to not care about hiding it.
  2. No, I did not do research. Much like we evaluate individual hockey abilities on this forum, I used the eye test. Is it reasonable that people could have an exploratory and educational discussion surrounding the topic? Yes. Keep in mind, my initial statement used the words "it seems" and "higher probability". It did not label all of them just that those in those positions seem to be more frequently engaging in those transgressions based on media reports. If it turns out incorrect, then we all end up more educated on the subject which is the point of a discussion. But yes, it is okay to state assumptions in public, because they are assumptions, not fact. I never said it was a fact and that is actually an important fact here.
  3. So Monday afternoon I received a call from my boss.. I was informed that Tuesday they were cutting positions across the company and that my job was going to be eliminated. He then informed me that they reached out to another group and got me a job there (similar to what I do now). It's a pure lateral move. I was then asked, do I want it? Naturally, I said, do I get the separation package if I say no? The answer was no, because I was no longer being eliminated, just re-assigned. My (now-former) boss is a good guy, so I basically said, "That kind of decides itself right?" We laughed. The new job has some promise... but man... to be 1 day away from losing your job and finding out about it. At the same time, knowing that you are a strong enough employee that they wanted to find me another spot... Strange week...
  4. Didn't Gretzky say something about how he sees a little of himself in Petterson? I think that would fuel that fire. If Dahlin has a strong second half he'll get serious consideration. He's going to be at the mercy of his team however. He might get a few more goals, but he'll need to ratchet up the apples and that means someone on the team scoring.
  5. The Varsity hockey team uses Friday nights for a pasta party. The team leaves practice on the bus and gets dropped off at one of the players' houses. This week we are sharing the duty with a few other families. It's an awesome experience where 22-25 high school kids swarm a buffet of food (tonight is garbage plates and mac & cheese). It's like the Tasmanian Devil going through your kitchen. They eat a ton, have a great time. But, for the parents, it's even better. First, you watch your kid be a part of his team. Second, you definitely drink to survive. The point of this story? A late game means I will almost assuredly be speaking in cursive at puck drop! Let's Go Buffalo!
  6. I'll answer this succinctly. Would I say the same thing? No. There is no apparent pattern that implicates non-white executives of engaging in similar behavior. This may be for any number of reasons. As for would I say the behavior is wrong? Of course. It doesn't matter who does it or how they identify on gender. There's no support for harassing another person, physically or mentally. The rest of this almost probably would be great in some sociology/philosophical club.
  7. I'm not really trying to say they are doing it because they are white. Race is perhaps nothing more than an adjective in this conversation. It's really centered more on the lack of sensibility that seems to reside within a class of individuals that have spent a lifetime working in a closed circle with no diversity. An environment where the kind of jokes that are told only serve to reinforce their behaviors. They then walk out into the world feeling as though they are capable of acting in certain ways. It's probably also fair to say that regardless of race, any group that shared a similar history would also develop the same way. I say this based on the factors that cause this behavior are a lack of understanding and appreciation for those who are different, culturally, socio-economically, and more. In this case, they happen to be white. You are 100% correct. I could have phrased that better. I did say it seems that there is, which is a suggestion that it may exist but I am not 100% committing to it. It's open to discussion, which is happening. A great point as I touched on above. It is 100%. And clearly not every older white corporate male is a sexual harasser. Stereotypes are not inherently wrong. They protect us. We stereotype things that are dangerous to us even if something that looks similar is not we are bound to avoid it at first as a means of self-preservation. Stereotyping is a form of classification and it's something that intelligent species do unconsciously. Even with our "heightened" sense of being we still love to classify. I think it's the level at which the stereotype is formed that really matters. Looking at the color of one's skin and passing judgment is clearly superficial and ignorant. However, the more factors that are brought into play the more likely it is that someone fits into that classification. There are always exceptions, but it doesn't make the stereotype without merit. To address your comment on made-up stereo-types to further and agenda. It might be philosophical to say that those are lies and have no merit. It doesn't change that people may choose to believe them, but they are inherently different than stereotypes that are founded in evidence.
  8. Maybe his lawyers secretly hope someone spits in his burger and he gets sick so they steer him wrong? ?
  9. No, you're right, BUT, in his defense he seen it used in a report he came acrost.
  10. You mean play the player who can join the rush who has scored a few of his goals at the corner of the net as opposed to the guy who spends 3 seconds pointing his stick at God before taking a slap shot that gets blocked or goes wide? Why would you do that?
  11. Whiteness has to do with the conversation centering on corporate executives and other people in positions of power abusing their positions to sexually harass others. We aren't discussing rape here or it would be a different kind of discussion. Whiteness has to do with it because I am white and I have been associated with their kind of behavior by others. I don't create the classifications, but I get to live them. Associated meaning "You know how you white corporate guys are..." to which I have to reply, "I know how some people are, but don't lump me in with those jackholes". Do you see a lot of articles being posted about non-white corporate executives being accused of sexual harassment? I don't. I am merely speaking to that situation and not making commentary on the broad classification of sexual harassment, including rape, that permeates all levels of society. If society were seeing a rash of reported sexual abuse cases by non-white corporate executives (and as I referred to, let;s say the Michigan State head was not white) then yes.. I would say the same thing. Because I am limiting my commentary to that specific group. I hope that answers your question.
  12. I'd be pissed too if I was Beaulieu Scandella really does not bring anything to the team this year and should have been in the press box numerous times. I would certainly give it a shot. I'm not saying Beaulieu has been amazing either, but certainly not much worse than Scandella.
  13. I dunno, I get drunk with my co-workers and I'm pretty sure I've never even encroached on any level of harassment (other than my presence). It's interesting that I am seeing this right after reading an article about the head of Michigan State resigning after submitting a quote to the news that the victims of Larry Nassar are "still enjoying the spotlight". I hate to stereotype, but it seems that if you are an older white dude, you have a heightened probability of also being a disrespectful and distasteful jackhole. How much of this is because of Kim Pegula's level of influence inside the organization? If she we weren't holding positions of power and showcasing herself as a more than capable executive I wonder if it would have been more likely to swing the other way. It's obviously a good thing that it's not. Jackholes like this need to get out of the corporate world and go spend time on their cozy private club golf courses until their end of days. I'm tired of hearing about it and (because I am a white, slightly less younger than them dude) being somewhat associated with them.
  14. Yeah... so he's an idiot. No lawsuit against any fast food place has brought them down yet. And there have been plenty.
  15. Yeah........... The ratio of articles I've ever seen implicating someone for spitting or worse in food definitely leans towards the fast food end of the spectrum. Not saying you are wrong in your suggestion, just that he's really (no really) an idiot if that's what he thinks.
  16. I mean.. they killed the top bad guy in the second movie. That's kind of unprecedented...
  17. It's not that a deal should be made. It's really more about what kind of deal should be made. Some are more drastic than others. I think every GM is always willing to make a deal... it just has to be a deal that fits. I bet Botterill could trade away almost any player right now, but it doesn't mean it helps the team.
  18. The savior coach is a myth. It's what people hang on to instead of facing reality. The team needs more talent. It will get more talent. I don't mind Phil as a coach. I guess I have more faith than others. I don't need a blowhard. The team has improved this year and I don't think that's just because of the players. I see the same players making better passes and executing the game plan better than they did last year. I don't put that on the GM.
  19. Failing the team implies that the team is not achieving the goals that were set for it. Keep in mind, their goals are not the same as your goals. You may have wanted the Sabres to be that playoff contender. You may have felt even more strongly about it after a 10 game winning streak. The Sabres were not set to be that team this year and I find nothing wrong with the current trajectory. The team was always setup to be taking the playoff step next year. This year belongs to the Leafs/Lightning/Bruins. Next year the Leafs have many questions about how to keep the roster together. Next year the Lightning have to figure out how to keep their roster together. The Bruins are old. The Sabres will be putting a few more younger players and perhaps find another top roster player like they did Skinner into the lineup. We know they still need depth and hopefully they'll have more of it next year. I think there will continue to be a philosophical difference between fans as to whether or not the right play is to trade players to try and make the playoffs this year versus establish the solid foundation for next year. The team is not a joke this year and has shown flashes of what it can be. It's not there yet, but trying to make it there this season isn't necessarily the right thing either. We'll go round and round on this I am sure. But until there is evidence that there are moves that could help this team both now and long term I am fine with what is happening. I am sure the players want to win, but I think they'd rather be winning for multiple seasons rather than win this year and then suddenly be back to losing because the team management reached too far.
  20. Tweet was deleted? Actually Anaheim must have deleted the tweet and re-tweeted a new one. Devin Shore (Dallas) to Anaheim for Andrew Cogliano.
  21. I saw that and looked at other examples. I really like the idea. Additionally, you are moving the puck low so any turnovers are less likely to lead to the opponent rushing down the ice because your D got caught trying to get the puck. I think the Sabres would do well to have that same setup and put Reinhart behind the net. Eichel and Risto the point people who can fire the one-timer and Skinner and <insert someone> to get inside the lower D to get rebounds. Beyond just the goaltender it forces the opponent to bring their high PK players back into the zone to prevent the 3 on 2 down low. This frees up the point for moving into better shooting positions. It also forces the D to continually turn to see where things are at.
  22. HELL YEAH!
  23. Botterill will set the market when he signs Skinner. Until then he's a potential UFA trade target and the market is going to act accordingly. Same with Bobbo and Breadman in CBJ.
