  1. Well, there are always guys like Raffi Torres and Chris Stewart floating around, but they didn't deliver for the Sabres nearly as well as McGinn has. Sometimes guys find the right situation and the match works well for the team and the player. That's not to say that the team should pony up a crazy amount to keep him, but it is to say that the fancystats don't tell the whole story. I also think Larsson is more a dime-a-dozen guy than McGinn is.
  2. I'm not going to applaud this, but I will note that Liger and certain others around here are officially on notice.

I agree with this, but I'm 90% confident that $5MM waste #1 is going to be bought out this summer. I would be very surprised if he didn't go to FA and get a fattest contract he can get. This is his one shot at a big contract. Having said that, I think it's quite possible that no one offers him materially more than the Sabres do this summer (after trading him at the deadline), and thus he returns.

I think McGinn brings it more consistently than Foligno and has substantially better finish than Deslauriers. Having said that, I wouldn't give him much more than the #s I mentioned upthread, and I definitely want the Sabres to trade him at the deadline.

I don't think he'll get that much from anyone. I can see him getting, say, $3.75MM x 3 years. I'd be pretty surprised if it ends up being higher than $4MM per year x 4 years.
  6. It sure would be nice if they started playing well at home.
  7. A few game notes: - Kane didn't convert the breakaway last night, but I thought he was a beast nevertheless. Lots of edge and pressure on the forecheck. - What a great play by Zemgus on Foligno's goal. He's come to life lately. - Lehner looked pretty good, and ferocious. - I kinda liked the Bogo-Pysyk pairing. - I expect the Habs to fire their coach. Losing 9 out of 10 and getting booed by their home crowd seems like a guarantee that heads will roll.
  8. I also wonder whether his family moved with him to Phoenix and, if not, whether the separation proved to be too difficult. In any case, I wish him and his family well.
  9. Early season irrational exuberance on SabreSpace notwithstanding, I don't see how anyone could not choose McDavid out of these 4.
  10. You could probably express your opinion here without calling those who disagree with you "naive."
  11. It was a 10-year period that included 6 years after his owner ripped the heart out of his team through cheapness and incompetence -- which, BTW, was the 2nd time an owner did that to Lindy's team during his tenure. I agree with your 2nd point though -- I don't think it was a dishonorable move by Darcy to fire Lindy. Those are the rules of the road. Oh, yes. Certainly during my adult life. Unforgettable. I don't think so, because both of them wanted and obtained jobs after being fired by the Sabres -- and generally speaking the coach/GM's new salary is netted against the one being paid by the team that fired him.
  12. Welcome to the board. I disagree with pretty much everything in this post. First, Darcy was terrible at drafting forwards, and average at drafting other positions. Second, Lindy got the Sabres to the final 4 twice after 2003.
  13. This is the right call for Winnipeg. Byfuglien is a difference-maker and periodic force of nature, and Ladd is JAG.
  14. Thank heaven (and WC). I'd like to hear more about the Spanish teacher. That place is awesome. Have fun.
  15. This. I thought he should've been fired a couple of years before he was, and he undeniably built a lousy team during the last 5-6 years of his tenure here, but I also thought he was a good guy and a gentleman.
  16. Correct. Just a bunch of temper tantrums.
  17. He was joking you hoser. I'd guess $7.5MM per year and I wouldn't be shocked if it gets to $8MM. I was listening to a hockey podcast hosted by a pretty knowledgeable Kings fan recently and he said the working assumption is that Lucic is gone and that the Kings aren't going to try to keep him (for cap reasons -- they like his play but can't afford to keep him).
  18. I will ask again: what is the support for this claim?
  19. Well, the people who are interested in this topic are the ones who are in this thread. I think SDS' point is that trolling can have the opposite effect -- i.e. turn people off to the point they stop coming to the board. How so? Please be specific.
  20. I don't think he's a troll, full stop, but I do think (as I mentioned upthread) that he from time to time engages in trolling. Abso-freaking-lutely.
