  1. As with everything, it’s a bunch of factors, some of which have been mentioned above. Another factor, since TM was GM, they put a premium on shooting skills when everything else was equal. It was the one and only reason they drafted VO.
  2. I spent a little time googling my recollection. One site talks about 100 inches of snow in some areas, another site backs up my recollection of only 12 inches of “new” snow couple with snow from the frozen lake.
  3. I’m 95% sure this is wrong. As I remember there was little snow. City was buried by snow that was blown off the frozen lake. Of course, my children prove 90% of my favorite stories wrong.
  4. By the way, has anyone actually translated this and, if it has any credibility, why is no one else talking about it? On the other hand, maybe don’t translate it and then after about 20 pages, reveal it is just a “spoof” video. I, for one, would be amused.
  5. Exactly. There is nothing I would ever guarantee but I’ll guarantee you one thing, if Buffalo ever trades Levi’s rights, it will not be to Montreal.
  6. Well, glad for the people with Tampa tickets but now I have 6 tickets to the Philly game I can’t use
  7. I believe 100% that Kane would like to finish his career in Buffalo and believe that Buffalo has discussed that possibility as well. I do, however, believe it’s slightly less likely now for a few reasons. I now believe that the Islanders are slight favorites, followed by the Rangers. Kane loves Barzal, the Rangers will do everything in their power to not let that happen and both teams would want extra years. In Buffalo’s favor, the cap remaining relatively flat another year. This may lead to Kane going to Minnesota at the deadline and to Buffalo in the off-season.
  8. The Sabres have been good about this in the past. Even if game is played(unlikely) they will most undoubtedly offer exchanges to those who choose not to come in. I would definitely not sell tickets at a loss.
  9. Over the course of an 82 game season, playoff teams are going to win games they are not supposed to. You’ll need your goalie to steal a game or two or three. It seems like some of the same people clamoring for an upgrade in net are dismissing a win because the Sabres finally had their goaltender win them a game. They won. No apologies or explanations necessary.
  10. Just how many beers had you had before “seeing” Santa?
  11. They acquired Reeves a week later at similar salary. My guess is they wanted to maintain their $3M cap space because they are going to be in cap hell for years starting next year and this may be their year to go for it.
  12. Some people have no idea how close deals have come to happening that would have had a major impact on futures of entire leagues. Things like KC choosing Steve Fuller over Joe Montana, the 49ers trying desperately to trade for Eddie Brown only to have to settle for Jerry Rice, etc etc. The cliche was always, sometimes the best trades are the ones you don’t make.
  13. They have won 4 in a row at their new home including 3 during this current string, but yes, Buffalo needs to win this.
  14. Ok, I missed a lot of the later posts, but update. We have two tickets left. Anyone interested in joining Taro, Wyldnwoody44 (plus 1) and myself, please message me. I have others interested in these tickets but I’ll hold off till Christmas.
  15. Family dinner at Howard Johnson’s across from the airport. Couldn’t believe it when we turned on the radio and heard the score. Boston was a machine back then and this game marked the beginning of the golden era of Sabre hockey.
  16. I’m almost positive the GM and coach agree with this. After the New Jersey game they both went on and on about how the Devils defense controlled the game.
  17. It’s going to be a weird dynamic having your number 2 center making more than your number one. In a perfect world, Cozens would agree to an identical contract but I understand why that’s unlikely. It’s similar to Colorado when they had McKinnon locked up cheaply and wouldn’t pay Duchense more.
  18. I haven’t read the whole thread but, in my opinion, Casey and VO fall under the “Vinny Prospal Theorem.” They reach their ceiling when getting top 6 minutes but their ceiling isn’t good enough for top 6 minutes on a Cup contender and they won’t embrace a bottom 6 roll. Now the game has changed a little since Prospal played so they might have more usefulness but the trick is still trying to shelter them when you don’t need them to contribute so you have them when you do. On the other hand, the Sabres are reaching that point where eventually they will have to trade players who excel for other teams so it may be a temporary problem.
  19. I think that’s the point. Beating Miami next week makes it 99.9999% sure the bills win the division but it would still take one more Buffalo win or Miami loss to guarantee it.
  20. I keep getting closer and closer to leaving social media and all that entails. I get the frustration of Sabres fan but the freakin Bills are 10-3 which is amazing considering their coaches and players all suck. Just so we are clear, I have no “delusions of grandeur.” I don’t think my departure will cause a huge outcry. It may, however, be greatly appreciated by the people who have to deal with my mood swings or those employees that I may have threatened to relocate to Utica.
  21. This Boston game was first thing I thought of. I can still see Mal Davis squeezing by the defenseman to score either the 6th or 7th goal, I can’t remember exactly.
  22. Danny Gare would have knocked Guentzel out and not been suspended at all unless he killed him. For that he would have gotten 3 games.
  23. I would and I find it interesting that the Sabres find it more beneficial to have kept Krebs up with the big club practicing rather than playing with Rochester. I am telling you, player development will undergo a major change in the coming years.
  24. I wasn’t putting a positive spin on their play. Clearly they need to upgrade.
  25. A few points; 1) If the analytics staff is only working with the numbers everyone has access to, you have huge problems. 2) As with any business organization, the head of said organization takes input from all departments and weighs their recommendations against what’s best for an organization. Just because it might not make sense to us, it doesn’t mean they are ignoring the analytics staff. 3) If there was one formula to building a team, you wouldn’t need any staff, just a premium subscription to evolving hockey.
