  1. Casey is a perfect example of someone who took longer to grow up. No surprise I don’t think things would have been any different for him had he played with Rochester. Not only did he need to grow up physically, he needed to become an adult. The difference with him is that he’s benefited from a crazy amount of patience because the team wasn’t trying to win till this year.
  2. Glad you pointed this out. Especially going out of his way to mention Quinn.
  3. I would say who cares, but obviously some do. Personally, I don’t know if I’ve watched any all star games in any sport since the 70’s.
  4. KO and Z will be here through the rest of the year and Z longer. The decision they have is if they think Quinn, JJP and Krebs benefit more by playing or just being around. If the answer is playing, the only players they think of upgrading are VO, Mittts and 4-6 defenseman and a goalie. Since goalies almost never move at deadline, that leaves only Mitts and VO and a whole bunch of prospects as trade chips.
  5. They can’t afford Horvat, how they going to afford Cozens?
  6. My point was how the paper transactions costs Krebs, Quinn and UPL, not Vinny.
  7. The NHL isn’t going to say boo about this any more then they say anything about the use of LTIR. The NHLPA, however, may have an issue considering the effect on the player’s salaries.
  8. Sundays game, for instance, was the highest rated wildcard game in years.
  9. Another guy whose opinion of the Sabre franchise was supposed to doom them for eternity.
  10. The Sabres just played two of the top ten teams in the league and controlled most of the play. They have been unsuccessful at home. They hardly “stink” st home.
  11. That was George Harrison’s defense against his plagiarism lawsuit. If I can’t read music, how could I plagiarize it? It’s really not uncommon.
  12. Again, The only players of note that have gone this path have chosen major cities or hometowns. Doesn’t matter what Buffalo does. Carolina is one of the model franchises in the league and couldn’t get Fox signed. This is not an epidemic or common occurrence. 99.9% of these players are not foregoing two years of income to stay in college.
  13. So a team gets to decide who they want to sign after drafting them and a player has to wait it out. Yeah makes sense. Teams specifically target college players in order to retain their rights longer. It’s part of the give and take.
  14. It’s not a cheat code. They have to give up two years of earning power and hope they are good enough for someone to sign them. You want to make the player sign, then make the teams sign everyone they draft. Then it will be fair.
  15. Why? Goalies in junior don’t have to go into the draft if they don’t sign. How many quality goalies have gone this route? Jury still out on Cal and like I said, Portillo is probably not that hood either.
  16. A) He is probably not that good B) There have probably been 10 or fewer players that have taken this route worth worrying about C) The system works much more in favor of the clubs which is why the loophole will not be closed. They get to hold onto prospects for longer while deciding if they are worth signing. Most of then sign before the deadline.
  17. He played a few games down in Rochester, is there a reason you think he’s not ready?
  18. The play of Quinn and JJP has made it easy. They can just go back and forth sending them back to Rochester on paper only. The question really is why? Not sure why they don’t just send Casey Fitzgerald down.
  19. His original scouting reports always mentioned his “difficult to play against” attributes. Maybe not in terms of gritty but definitely relentless which makes him ideal for the role he is playing now if he embraces it and continues to add strength.
  20. You think they will be that high considering, by his criteria, Mule, Quinn, Peterka and Power won’t included
  21. For what bits worth, I only responded to the previous post, I didn’t read the whole conversation
  22. I’m going side with John here. The truth is they hired the chalk hires, other than settling for Bylsma after being spurned by Babcock. Even Krueger, who was an unmitigated disaster, was lauded by the hockey community in general. Did they make mistakes? Sure. Mostly impatience and not vetting Lafontaine but I also don’t think they “lucked” into Adams. The JBOT dismissal sped up the timeline but they were grooming him for this position. Like John and others have said, you can blame them for every mistake without crediting them for their successes.
  23. I thought you’d be as well. Didn’t have much chance to talk. Hopefully we will remedy that next time.
