The 4-4-0 Blue Jackets are in town with a strange 6:45 start time to take on your 4-4-1 Buffalo Sabres. This game is the 4th one to start in tonight's all 32 team Frozen Frenzy on ESPN2. Games start at 6PM ET and stagger every 15 minutes or so until the last game starts at 11 ET.

Another division conference game (that could have implications on the wildcard at the end of the season) and ideally the debut of Kesserling. Who will he be partnered with? Power was the pre-season expectation but he seems to be doing well with Timmens atm. Meanwhile Dahlin and Byram got broken up so maybe he slots in with one of them.

And what of our 3-headed monster? Who gets the crease? I'd give it to Lyon.

Let's Go Buffalo!

OK, well is probably too strong of a word. They haven't been our biggest issue on defense. That was Dahlin and Byram. I also think they've been improving the more they played together. Timmens was awful in the first period of the Florida game (which is when I think they started pairing) and got benched for a few shifts and moved off of the pair until Bryson got hurt.

I think they've been trending in a better direction though.

I hope Kesselring can go because we need some reinforcements. Lyon better get the start and Buffalo will need to be sharp early against a young but talented Columbus team.

Another division game

Blue Jackets are in the Metropolitan Division, not the Atlantic.

Important, though, from the standpoint of potential wildcard down the road.  Take two, no loser point for Columbus, please.

Hmm. Why the hell have been thinking they were in our division? Thanks Agree about the wildcard bit though.

Timmons has 24 blocked shots good for 12 th in NHL

I see my work here is unfinished. I bolded ATM for a reason. Maybe it's too early for those types of references.

Is this frozen frenzy going to be a normal thing? I like that idea

I believe they started it last year and hope they continue it. Staggering the start times make so much sense so you can flip between games during intermissions.

you can flip between games

Makes sense in theory but "flipping between games" on a lot of smart TVs means leaving one streaming platform and going to another, waiting for all the buffering while they load and often watching a mandatory 2 minutes of ads while the game goes on.

It would have worked better in the age of cable.

It seems likel it's going to become a thing.  And agree that it's a cool idea.

Would prefer they'd do it on a winter's Saturday or Sunday.  Whenever they choose their "national day of hockey" to be.  They could spread the games out over the entire day; you'd still have significant overlap of games but with 10-12 hours of staggered start times rather than just 5 or so could get closer to 45 minutes between starts which would give people an opportunity to watch pretty much a period of every game without having to watch anything on delay if they wanted to do so.  (Which ESPN and Rogers would hate as they wouldn't have the broadcast rights to all those games.)

Why not have it on a Saturday or Sunday?  I suppose this time of year, competing with College Football & the NFL, the weekends would be tough.  College Football has a pretty sizable hiatus between their regular season and playoff. Why not just wait until then?  I'm sure hockey die hards will enjoy the experience regardless, I just think if you have a non-college football Saturday, you could have games starting at 11 am - 11pm, giving fans a chance to watch 4-5 complete games. Not a hodge podge of catching a period or two of about 3 games.

I know! So stupid! I wanted to grab a drink at ballyhoo before the game so now i have to take a call in the car.  It's also bills night so there's a free "jersey", so its going to take longer to get into the arena.

We might try to avoid doing dinner before in the DT area.  Gonna be a long wait at most places.

Yeah, i'm gonna head down for 430 or so, i hate paying arena prices for beer and id rather just have a couple and get a coke at the game.

I forgot its "frozen frenzy" day, so every team in the league is in action which explains the weird start time.

Is the jersey only for those that bought the ticket package from the Sabres directly?
