UPL very very rarely can make the huge save when it’s needed. That’s why he’s not a #1 goalie. We know what we have in him. No idea why they felt the need to rush him back. I said it was stupid days ago before it even happened and tonight we saw yet again why he’s NOT the answer. Let’s see what we have in Lyon and Ellis. Ruff and Adams aren’t smart enough to do that.

Its like someone flipped a switch with him. I know this is only 1 game and his first of the season, but it LOOKED like all his games last year.

UPL with a whopping .818 save pct.  Seems to be about what I would expect out of him game in, game out.

Ya. This can’t continue. If Ruff continues playing UPL then he needs to go.

I would love to know who decided that one game in Rochester was enough.

I think we win tonight with Ellis in net.

That's a 4-1 empty-net goal win with Ellis.

But --- the former sentence is the more important to the future and health of the franchise.

Sabres played well and deserves 2 points, but when your goalie decides to let in a softie to tie it in the 3rd and then the only shot in OT you aren't going to get 2 points.

Power played good most of the night but fumbled it when it mattered which really sucks.

Quinn was great but tried to give Thompson a 3rd instead of using his high tier shot

Dahlin couldn't get his rangefinder working

UPL needs to make that save on Tavares; in OT your goalie has to give you at least 1 mulligan; the Leafs goalie gave them one.

3 out of 4 ain't bad though, just keep working and piling up points.

That's exactly the problem; the guy making these decisions doesn't THINK. Adams has his guys and he has blinders on when it comes to them. There's not another organization in this league that brings a goalie up after one conditioning game. Not a single one.

A couple days off before a game with Columbus, then 2 days later Boston.

Get the injured guys rested up, and hopefully the next 2 games will both be Lyons, or split with Lyons and Ellis.

Just waive UPL already. We aren’t getting anything worthwhile for him anyway. Just eat the 4.75m AAV.

They can get something in trade.  They may have to retain salary, or take another risky contract in return (see Cozens- Norris).

UPL can never make a key save to steal a game.  I'd rather take my chances with Ellis.

I want UPL traded yesterday.  There are plenty of other clubs looking for a goalie with experience, and Buffalo should take whatever salary hit they have to absorb to make a trade

Perhaps, but he’s an Ellis-blocking anchor in the meantime. With his career numbers, what do you project we get in a trade? Imo, it’s little at best. He needs to be jettisoned.

Dubious goalie decision. It smacks of putting winning on the back burner, a Sabres tradition since The Tank. See also: development year.

I saw on X that Ellis was scheduled to start, but he wasn’t feeling well or something. Not sure if that’s true but supposedly UPL was not supposed to play as of earlier today. Then got the nod.

I think if you try to trade him, there are probably a bunch of teams that might look at him 2 years ago, see his size, his 'pedigree' (Draft status) and say they would take a shot with him.

But 'taking a shot' means you aren't going to give up much.

Too easy to blame goalie play. Look deeper folks. Too much cheating and soft play on defense. Owen Power is as much as a liability as Dylan Cozens was on this team. Lindy needs to ride his backside until he learns to play defense. Send him packing if it's not his nature!

Guys railing on Power? Come in. He made a great play to be in the rush and he unfortunately lost the handle. It happens. If he scores the calls would be the same but thanks for the goal.  UPL was poor and he’s the reason they lost.

Going to be glass half full - Team looked very very good. Getting Benson back changed 100% how this team plays. Once we get Kesselring in the lineup for Metsa (nice story but he's an AHL player) and Greenway in for the other AHL guy who played tonight and this team is going to be hard to beat. UPL is garbage and always really has been and whomever decided to give him his "training camp" work today vs Toronto is idiotic (adams? ruff? goalie coach?).  Big risk is if Lyon regresses, which is a real possibility. Still, I rather get rid of UPL and roll with Lyon and Ellis with Levi as a safety net

I don't think it was a decision. Ellis woke up not feeling well

Something is wrong with Ellis.  And goalies don’t play on back to backs any longer. The whole thing sucks and UPL sucks more.
