I might be reaching, but this almost has the look of a team that is trying to get organizational leadership fired as fast as possible

Am I insane here or is anyone else maybe thinking this?

I’ve just never seen anything like this to start a season with a professional sports team

What sending me in that direction is the fact that they already looked checked out, which is so weird to me

Naw.  They are a product of the culture -  not motivated, poorly coached and lacking pride.

Going back to last season, Ruff has had trouble getting a good first period out of this team.  That smells like a lack of preparation.

You're thinking of the team under Granato.

Ruff had them ready to go in the 1st.  Ruff couldn't get them to sustain that for the full 60.  Now, it seems he can't even get that 1st period going well.  This has the makings of a very long season.
