If UPL falters and isn’t quickly replaced, this team is cooked. At a minimum, we need average goaltending. If we don’t get it, the ship will again sink.

Yeah. However improved any defense is you still need decent goaltending. We’ll know by mid November. It would some crazy stuff if things clicked and they went six or seven games in the first round.

If your fandom is affected by my comments (or the comments of anyone on the internet) then your fandom is very weak. You be you and wear your jersey or wave your flag or whatever you want to do and I will be me, a cynical old grouch who is sick of this franchise being a mickey mouse useless organization.

I have in the past (more distant past then recent but still) had hope and optimism and thought this is the year and so forth, but they have squeezed that out of me. I won't get fooled again until I see something real.

Well the team is the same over and over for years so.............................

Good heavens. Best wishes. Hopefully the Bruins treat you right.

I don't spend my day being negative.

IMO you bring up valid points and I think it’s valid to let them outweigh the hope for this team. A lot of people feel renewed optimism right before a season begins. In the case of the Sabres there has been too much mismanagement to think anything will be different.

My view is the defense is better on paper and everything else is reshuffling deck chairs. Likely the organization is going to hope things just work out instead of getting proven players for roles.

Same old stuff with likely same old results until proven otherwise.

Except it's not really the "same old stuff." Ruff is finally getting a full camp, not shuttling off to Europe in a rush. Most here would scoff at that mattering, just like they scoff at anything the Sabres do.

I don’t think anyone would be happier to be wrong about his goaltending prediction than @LGR4GM

You wanna buy the "we had to go to Europe!" Excuse, go for it. It's bull hockey and I'd bet money that if Buffalo had squeeked into the playoffs last year, we'd be hearing about how great the Europe trip was for team bonding or some nonsense. If one of the most experienced coaches in the league wants to use the excuse that they didn't get a full camp so that's why the lost 13 games in a row 6 weeks later, all the power to Lindy.

I probably shouldn’t have gone off topic, but I was asking because of the Nashua news.

The shooting at the golf course? Disgruntled ex-employee apparently. I'm about 30 miles away.

Believe what you want. I don't care.

Nah, you missed my post in the other thread. It was my good news positivity post for the Sabres.

After watching the Bruins today I think it's almost certain the Sabres will not be last in the division. So you can celebrate.

You do.  It’s directed at the fanbase you are part of instead of the team.

Kesselring says he wants to play meaner.

Ok.  I accept that.

The Sabres are highly scoffable.   Good teams would shake off a bad start and pull it together.  Goods teams would find a way to stop a 13 game losing streak from happening.  Good teams are not out of the race at Christmas.   Good teams don't miss the playoffs for 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 years.  Good teams actually improve year over year.  Good teams win at home and on the road.

Lots to scoff at and the fans "pay the bills".   The fans here are some of the best fans the Sabres have.  They can scoff with impunity in my opinion.

I would add that Good teams also spend enough to max out their salary cap…..and even many bad teams as well.

Then go find a good team to follow, unless you prefer being miserable.

Am not there yet; am actually more where the mindset was prior to Nolan's 1st year and Ruff's 1st year.  Aka whole-lee-fack we're screwed.  They seemingly didn't do anything to improve and teams around them on paper got better.  But, in each of those years, things worked out pretty well.

Can see a lot of reasons to be optimistic, but also several to be pessimistic.  And on the pessimistic side, have zero faith in Wilford and Appert and little faith in UPL.  BUT, last year even with all that still being the same, Ruff had them ready to go at the beginning of games.  They have better defensive talent, if the talent can overcome the coaching, perhaps they can keep from giving up those early leads they should still be getting fairly regularly.

Find a way to score some PP goals, even though Appert will do everything in his power to prevent it, and this could very well be a playoff team with middle of the pack or better goaltending.  And they do have 4 lottery tickets.  All of whom have flashed in at least partial seasons.

And, as tix aren't selling, except for an out of town trip that will keep us away from 4 or so games, will likely be at a whole bunch of games, so ... LET'S GO BUF-FA-LO!!!!!!!

Dominik Hasek being arguably the best hockey player on the planet during that time certainly helps.
