Pimlach Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago Would I overpay for Zito? Yes. Zito is going for a 3-peat, that makes him elite in today's world, plus he is relevant right now. No second thoughts on this question. 1 Quote
Standing Room Smoking Cigs Posted 8 hours ago Author Report Posted 8 hours ago (edited) It really comes down to challenge, Zito at is height now as a GM is at the zenith, he deserves all accolades, but if a challenge he may seek, the Sabres are there. The flood of hockey guys he could access in this market closest to their upbringing would be an interesting scenario. He'd be no Ted Black or Larry Quinn, he'd be an Imlach. With keys... ponokasabre Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago Its not my money, and there is no salary cap on executives, so absolutely 100% all day, i wouldn't even blink about it. Pay him 1 million per year more then his highest offer he recieves Quote
LabattBlue Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago If you are Zito, would you rather stay with the Panthers, or come work for Pegula? Quote

Great Question and it comes from a position of power, Zito yeah I think he would seems wired that way. Know it a pipe dream but have 15+ first rounders brought us? Trettioåtta Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago We have a POHO, sure we haven't made the playoffs in 14 years but I don't see why the one that has overseen 14 years of failure should be held responsible for this. Keep Terry employed Quote

French Collection Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago (edited) Show him the money! Zito probably has zero desire to work for TP but a promise to give him full power, not meddle and provide all the resources he wants could be attractive. Zito would obviously clean out a bunch of dead weight but it would great to see his moves and who he is able to attract. Does he bring in his own palm trees? Pipedream for sure. Most likely stay where you are BUT..................egos can be big and if he felt he's done all he can there and it'll be a slow decline in a few years he might like the idea of a new challenge. Bill Parcells sort of thing. Unlikely, but not impossible. He would however demand complete control, a lot of money and very long term and none of that is something Pegula would consider. I wanted Dudley hired as hockey Czar way way back and there was an opportunity at one point. He would have steered this ship better than Pegula has. Quote

He is also going to help Team USA pick their Olympic roster so he is going to be a busy man. Agree he could take the job simply for the huge challenge. He was born in Pittsburgh, grew up in Wisconsin, went to college at Yale and played varsity hockey there. He became a lawyer to pay for that Yale education. He was a sports agent, and then a hockey front office guy, then the Florida GM. He is not a fancy guy, he is a gritty worker that relates to people. Pegula allegedly had him in his final two and he took Boterill. Seattle had him in their final two and they took Francis. If Zito ever leaves Florida it will be for huge money and complete control. Terry can do both but will he ever? Making Buffalo a Cup winner would be the biggest challenge he could tackle. Quote

If this is true, and Pegula hasn't been able to get any tips from him that his hockey club could use some changes, i highly doubt after winning 2 Stanley Cup's Zito would become interested helping out.
