Agree, I’m not really worried about the Byram deal. I think the bidding market will help offset Adams natural inability and we end up with a player tantamount to Byram: either Byram himself or another player who can help you win if put in a specific situation

the bigger move to me is one where we see actual improvement: we haven’t made a single one this offseason! Is anyone else noticing this? Regardless of what happens with Byram, we need a futures trade. Right now for a F or for a D should we trade Byram for a F.

That's a fantasy.  Wait too long and the offers dry up as teams look elsewhere and/or they run out of cap space.  Eventually, you run out of suitors and then you are left with having to re-sign a player who doesn't want to be here.  This what happened with both Ullmark and Reinhart.  Maybe he just signs a 1 year deal and forces Adams to trade him at the deadline or next off-season (his last as an RFA).  Regardless, better trade him now while there is a market for his services.

There are very few teams with cap issues.

Am I the only person who just wants this move done one way or another, either he's bridged, signed, or traded?

Nope. I feel the exact same way.

I don't think he's great but I don't think he's bad. I just want to know what's going on.

I’m excited to see what happens with Byram, but I’m actually ok with Kevyn taking his time with this as long as he gets the best return as possible.  Let the other teams battle it out until one finally offers the right deal.

Friedman this morning says the Byram noise is not really about him getting traded as much as it is about him getting paid.

Said Peterka wanted out, that’s not necessarily the case with Byram and the market for Byram is kinda soft.

Also said, as I alluded to upthread, the agent likes to take his clients to unrestricted free agency.

Does nothing but reinforce my sense that he’s staying in Buffalo on a short-term deal.

Really interested in seeing if the Sabres force that by taking him to arbitration because I don’t think Bo would mind that at all.

He can opt for a one year term, and does he also get UFA status one year earlier as well?

He can choose one-year term and repeat this process next year with significantly more leverage.

Or 2-year and walk directly to UFA

Byram to Calg for Kadri with other pieces worked out to make everyone happy.

Kadri is the type of player the Sabres need.  Tough and can score.  He would look good with Tage.

We will know by 5pm today, right?  Isn’t July 6th the deadline to file for club elected arbitration?

It felt like every other team had some optimism. Of course not Sabres! Yet again come across a joke. It really is insane.

I believe he’s correct, and I’d pay Byram. The cap isn’t so bad on the defense side as when we signed Power. I’d pay the term and amount. We can hash out who goes in another couple years, but now, ya, I’d re-sign him.

Just sign him and be done with it. Place Byram next to Dahlin. Kesselring next to Power. Timmons can be a 5/6 that can be elevated to top 4 if either of them get injured. And the team still hasn’t addressed the what if Dahlin goes down for 1-2 weeks? We going to go on a new losing streak? At least with Byram and the newcomers, maybe we can go 0.400-0.500 during these games.

Byram. Doesn't he want Dahlin's role?

100% agree.  Keeping Byram now, gives them more time to see if Quinn or Rosen can step up and fill a role in the top 9

im optimistic about Quinn still

Play Byram next to Dahlin, his numbers will look great and drive up his trade value.  if Quinn doesn't rebound , then you will have a market for Byram
