JohnC Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago This is a good deal from a talent, contract $$$ and term. He’s a good 3C who can move up the ranks when needed. He’s a solid two-way player who also PKs. This is far from being a big deal but it is a good deal that is both a positive factor on the ice and in the room. 2 Quote
HumanSlinky39 Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago I like this move. McLeod is a very good 3C, fast as hell, reasonably skilled, and good on the PK. Needed to happen, glad we get to keep him. 1 Quote

Sidc3000 Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago Now we will see who the real McLeod is. Quote

msw2112 Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago Good move for the Sabres and finally they've done something that makes sense. I like the signing and have zero issues with it, except for the fact that it doesn't improve the team. McLeod was already on the roster. Can they please sign someone who is a positive addition to the roster? Alex Lyon, assuming the deal is actually done, is a fine backup goaltender, but essentially just replaces Reimer, so not really much of a net add (no pun intended). Quote
Eleven Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago That Savoie pick is paying off, yeah, @SDS? Quote
Thorny Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago (edited) This is the type of deal (the original trade) that remains our hope after the slow start to the offseason. We can split hairs in either direction all day but the roster as constructed more less seems to have been either tweaked at the fringes (Lyon/Reimer, Timmins/Clifton, Danforth/Lafferty) or likely downgraded in talent (Peterka/Kesselring+Doan). We can argue for “identity” upgrade with the later deal but realistically, smart money says an about break-even roster, aptitude wise, is where we sit, provided the Peterka deal doesn’t backfire too badly. I was hoping for picks for vets deals, even/especially high picks (looking at 9)…prospects for vets. Haven’t seen those yet. But, as mentioned the McLeod deal represents a template for what could still come - didn’t arrive till July 5 last year im not sure we’ll see a noted “upgrade” should we move Byram, if we move Byram failing something McLeod-esque…I mean right now it does set up nicely as more less “more of the same Sabres” Edited 11 hours ago by Thorny Quote

His numbers were lower because he wasn't asked to do as much offensively. I suspect last season set a reasonable expectation going forward and if he's surrounded correctly, 45-55 points is what he'll provide. 1 Quote

Big Guava Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago Ugh...sucks they are giving him a contract in what might be a career best goal season 1 Quote
thewookie1 Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago With how the cap is rising even if he averages 15g,25a per year while playing solid two-way hockey I think it’s a very fair deal. 5 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago So this is the one good and reasonable thing they've done so far. No complaints. After the Quinn overpay I expected this to be an overpay as well but it actually seems just about right. Quote

It doesn't stop you from making any other moves that you want to do. The problem with this lagging franchise is not stressing out the cap as it is being willing to use what is available. The Pegula penny-pinching approach has crushed this franchise into irrelevance. It's a stupid and self-defeating way of doing business. Quote

Sure but you can't really go around tossing money at guys who don't earn it either or you get into big trouble without achieving anything. Quinn is overpaid for what he's done. Trust me, I'd rather they spent to the cap. Quote

I also expect Kulich to elevate his game. Especially for young players, you make a judgment on what their upside is and where are they are in their development process. I consider his contract within the reasonable range. And I expect him to show that uptick in play this season. TBD. Quote

Kulich is young but we're rushing him. Could be a drop off or a jump forward. Impossible to know which way it goes. Placing him in as top line center would be continued ridiculousness. Quinn was not hurt last year. He just sucked. Quote
Cranky old man Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago I haven’t given Adams credit for anything in five years. I’ll break down here. McLeod has been a solid acquisition, we used an asset who was an accessory. Good extension deal. We picked up some right handed D. Feels like roster building. If this is the Jarmo effect—-I like it. 1 Quote
