Combine the two situation and you might understand my point - he is a step behind. He does not spend to the cap, even though he says its not Terry that is holding him back. Despite this, he is dumping salary to defend against an offer sheet for his 2nd best defenseman. Why? Because he created the situation he was defending against - just look at Power's contract and Samuelsson's contract - they are the work of a GM that had no business running an NHL team. To me he appears to be operating without a plan. In my opinion he was done a poor job and is over his head. But since I am married to this team I am willing to follow them and see if Lindy can make something out of this roster. GMKA keeps talking about having a “plan”, but I for one have no idea what that is….and I suspect he doesn’t either. That or he isn’t willing to be truthful about it because he knows he would get roasted for it (ex. Being cheap). 1 hour ago, shrader said: And you believe that? Adams himself is a cost-saving hire. I would suspect the coaching staff is as well. 2 Quote

A skilled and seasoned manager would not insult his team’s geographical area in reference to taxes and palm trees. It was a dumb statement that will stick to him like flies on $hit. The GM made a dumb, undiplomatic and clumsy comment about the appeal of the area in his comments about attracting talent. What he should have said, and has said it indirectly recently, is that persistent losing has created greater challenges in attracting players. The irony is that Buffalo should be a destination franchise because of its location being near Canada and southern Ontario stretching towards Toronto where a lot of players and their families come from and still reside. And the second irony is that he and the owner have contributed to creating their own ghetto franchise by the inept way that they have managed this franchise. It didn't have to be this way. The solution is simply a greater application of competency. That would be medicinal. 1 2 Quote

If he isn't one of the 10 lowest paid GMs in the NHL would be shocked. He's a 1st time GM with literally his greatest success in 5 seasons as the GM being having finished 9 points above NHL 0.500 once. Every other season his teams have finished below 0.500. This. If he isn’t one of the lowest paid GMs, that is even more damning of Pegula’s judgment. 1 Quote

So Pegula either rolled out the brinks truck for Adams or he was a low cost hire. I’ll let you choose whichever one you’d be more happy with. 2 Quote

Certainly discussed in the media for months. And if someone wanted him enough they could make a serious offer. 7 minutes ago, shrader said: So Pegula either rolled out the brinks truck for Adams or he was a low cost hire. The Sabres were actually smart for once defending against an offer sheet. And since they can't land any blue chip scoring in free agency, at least they are improving the back end and team grit. Again, dumb or not stupid or not, Adams has been an utter failure as a GM in this league. Sure, some of the things he says in front of the mic has merit at times and defending against the offer sheet is one of them. But he is full of crap with his trite remarks and platitudes the majority of the time. Like that old saying goes, he’s all hat, no cattle. Quote

Actually the plan looks pretty clear based on what they’ve done, at least so far: navigate the contract minefield of this off-season without significantly increasing the payroll or getting too much worse. He’s probably pretty happy with the results so far. Quote

I feel like that’s essentially what Adams wanted: the team again + Kesselring Quote

None of them were effectively on the roster last year. You KNOW that Adams is banking on big years from Norris and Quinn. (And IF he gets that, AND the goaltending is at least top 12, AND they stay healthy, AND Kesserling and Power gel; well, without any pucks going into the Sabres net off knees and counting, then probably (possibly?) PLAYOFFS!!!!) Quote

Maybe the key is “thus far”, but my question is does his plan actually include becoming a playoff team (or is that just icing on cake on top of being thrifty)? Not getting too much worse won’t help Dahlin, TNT and Tuch want to stick around, but then again maybe the plan is to move them out for rebuild 4.0, 5.0 or whatever would be next. Quote
