As @inkman is always reminding us, never believe what you see in press conferences.

But I definitely read into the Adams and Byram season-enders - what was said and what wasn’t said - that Byram is probably gone.

Today on After the Whistle Craig Rivet said Byram’s family came in and helped him completely clean out his house. Rivet says Byram would sign in Buffalo, but he wants Power’s role and opportunity. They’ve chosen Power over Byram and he will be moved.

Take it for what it’s worth.

So, this season's failure won't be anybody's fault because it took too long for Power to get back to form from the injury now that they'll only have 2 top 4 D-men?

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Some teams build rosters in the off-season, the Sabres build excuses.

Not surprising.  Adams admitted that he didn't know where Byram fit in when he traded for him.  Kev has no plan to build a competitve roster aside from gathering shiny nickels.

No, that isn't true.  WHEN he traded for him, he saw him as Dahlin's partner.

When Ruff showed up, he saw Samuelsson and Power as Dahlin's primary partners but he still put the 2 (Dahlin & Byram) together for a very long stretch of the season.  Towards the end of this year Adams said something to the effect of he had no idea where Byram fit in best.  That his opinion changed (likely in large part due to Ruff's input) doesn't mean he didn't have a plan when he traded for him.

There are soooooooo many legit things to criticize Adams for; IMHO THAT isn't one of them.

I strongly believe Byram will be closer to the Reinhart/O’Reilly list of former Sabres than the Mittelstadt/Myers group when all is said and done.

They better use him to fix this.

Cool. Now, trade him before the draft.

If it's after UFA starts, Byram should sign a 1-year $4.5M offer sheet with some playoff team that needs a PP2 guy. Adams can either take a 2026 2nd or continue the redundant logjam of players and eat into the "no we don't have a self-imposed ceiling" cap space that is going to be set aside for JJP, Quinn, Levi, McLeod, and Kozak.

(I'm now also praying that Kozak gets a silly $3M offer sheet where the compensation is a 2nd round pick and Adams is all... he's ours! And Kozak ends up being way overpaid, but good at his role.)

Let the chaos go unchecked!

I like Byram’s game better than Power’s.

I never get nice things.

Power has had his struggles as a young defenseman. That shouldn’t be surprising. And without a doubt, injuries have been a factor in his play. However, if the choice came down to keeping either Bryan or Power, that would be an easy decision for the organization. Without much consideration, Power would and should be kept and Byram dealt.

What injuries have been factors in Power's play?  He's had INJURY (singular) and hasn't played since sustaining said injury.

I've posted this many times.

When we got him, Byram was a sub 50% expected goal % player on a stacked Avalanche team where basically everyone was above. He also had cherry picked assignments with Manson and Girard getting the tough defense zone matchups that typically drop the %'s.

On the Sabres he was always one of our worse expected goals too unless he was playing with Dahlin.

We don't want him, nor his contract asking price.

Had he asked me, I would have helped him move too.

He has been injured prior to his last end of season injury. If I recall correctly he played with a bad ankle.

Why is it an easy decision?  What do you think Power has that makes him so obviously more important to keep?

I'd honestly trade both.

Can’t this also be said about Power? Samuelsson, Clifton etc….

They said both Byram and Quinn are on the market and Byram has packed up and left.

Unfortunately it will be dipsh🤬t trading them so they won’t be serious moves to build the team into a playoff team.

I’d be fine dealing Byram if we had a competent GM, the guy traded for him with no plan in place. This is some top level incompetence right there.

If you're looking at asset value, kevyn got more value here compared to keeping mittelstadt.  And his trade record actually is pretty decent, despite all of the doom and gloom in this fanbase.

His trade record is decent? How many times have we been to the playoffs in 5 years? Can't be that decent. I do like McLeod and Greenway but other than that I could live without Byram, I thought he was good with Dahlin but pretty average without him. The Josh Norris trade is looking shakey already as he was re-injured 3 games after we traded for him and was already injury prone before that.
