Sadly, people are still talking about this trash heap, so they don't have to care yet. I'm at the point now where I'm only checking in here every few days. Nothing changes with the team so there's little for people to talk about except the same things over and over again. I won't be bothered to even give a damn about this team any more. Quote

On Reinhart and Eichel finishing top 5 in the Selke voting (along with Ullmark's Vezina and O'Reilly's Conn Smythe). What more evidence is needed of the general incompetence of the Pegula-era? Since the Regier firing, the franchise has been rudderless. No plan, no leadership, and a lack of skill and aptitude in the most crucial GM position, has led to the squandering of valuable assets. As of now, there is no reason to think this is over. On Maurice's record in Florida. The year prior to Maurice taking over, the Panthers won the President's Trophy under (mostly) Andrew Brunette. In 2022-23, Maurice was one Sabre win (and two end of season Pittsburgh losses to bottom of the standing Chicago and Columbus) from missing the playoffs in his first season as Panther coach. If instead of the Panthers sneaking in and going on a long run to the finals, had they missed the playoffs one year after finishing 1st overall, who knows what Panther ownership does in the spring of 2023. Had Adam been more proactive at the 2023 deadline, the Sabres might have stopped the Florida juggernaut before it ever got traction. 1 1 Quote

DarthEbriate Posted Tuesday at 01:32 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 01:32 PM Well, there's one UFA the Sabres won't sign. Marcus Johansson signs a 1-year $800k extension with the Wild. He'll be 35 this season, but last year he was 11-23-34 in 72 gp. Functional 3/4 winger last season, but the contract is to be their 13th forward. For comparison, at this time, Josh Dunne will be the only NHL contract in the Sabres organization that would make less than MoJo next season. Any of the draft picks will make more if they happen to make the NHL roster. Quote

What is truly sad is reading the Fairburn article and finding out that Terry Pegula thought that the signing of the lazy and overrated Taylor Hall would make the Sabres Cup contenders. And Adams agreed. Two completely incompetent people are at the helm. Edited Tuesday at 07:27 PM by Pimlach 1 Quote

Taro T Posted 23 hours ago Report Posted 23 hours ago 52 minutes ago, Pimlach said: I am surprised at some of the names getting votes. How does Mathews get more Selke votes than Tuch? Because he's in the media center of the hockey universe and Tuch plays for a team that is simply bad, not absolute bottom of the league bad, and nobody bothers thinking about anybody on that team when it comes time for end of the season awards. The voters remember Matthews name because he's talked about quite a bit. When's the last time any of them gave any thought to Alex Tuch? Most likely is was the last time the Loafs played in Buffalo. And he was forgotten as quickly as TO left the rink. How was Ovechkin voted into the end of season All Star team as both a LW and a RW one year? Quote

The Canadian broadcasts are constantly talking about his defensive prowess, especially when he is not scoring. No way is he in the same league as Barkov, Kopitar etc.. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago For the Selke, you have to: Play center (unless you're Jere Lehtinen). Be listed as a center on NHL.com (see Reinhart) Make the playoffs For myself, I just sort the forwards by +/-: Protas +40, Lehkonen +36, Foegele +36. I like being lazy. Quote

I find that some years it was a trophy given to a centre who was never going to win an Art Ross or Hart trophy but was a good scoring C and good defensively. Since the Lehkonen days the defensive specialist wingers like Gainey and Ramsey are not really in the conversation. Same as the Norris going to a Rod Langway type, it’s now the Art Ross of Dmen.
