That’d be nice, I like Comrie as a person, seems like a nice guy; but has only shown us a couple minor flashes of good play before getting hurt

Which is exactly what he always was. All those stats people who threw out diagrams and numbers claiming he was some sort of untapped gem were just blowing a lot of smoke and living in denial of the fact KA screwed up goaltending on this team and we all have to pray now that Levi and/or UPL will somehow rise up and save us.

A quick survey of goalie injuries reported this month:

  • Anaheim- John Gibson - Dec 18 - Out indefinitely - Personal (birth of child) (Calle Clang, Lukas Dostal on roster)
  • Dallas- Jake Oettinger - Dec 18 - Out indefinitely - Lower Body - (Matt Murray, Scott Wedgewood on roster)
  • Detroit- Ville Husso - Dec 18 - Ques Wed
  • Detroit- Alex Lyon - Dec 18 - Out indefinitely - Lower Body (James Reimer on roster)
  • Los Angeles- Pheonix Copley - Dec 18 - Out indefinitely - Lower Body (Cam Talbot, David Rittich on roster)
  • New Jersey- Vitek Vanecek - Dec 17 - Ques Tues - Undisclosed (Nico Daws, Akira Schmid on roster)
  • Seattle - Philipp Grubauer - Dec 10 - Out indefinitely - Lower Body (Joey Daccord, Chris Driedger on roster)
  • Toronto - Joseph Woll - Dec 9 - Out indefinitely - Ankle (Martin Jones, Ilya Samsonov on roster)
  • Vegas - Adin Hill - Dec 17 - Ques Tues - Undisclosed (Jiri Patera, Logan Thompson on roster)

I grayed out the Questionables, assuming they are short term.  But there are teams that may be looking for help.  I'm sure the Sabres are looking at each team's situation and trying to see if there's a mutually beneficial deal available involving Comrie.

You SURE about that? I doubt it.

But he did have good analytical numbers; great goalie don't just spawn in like a video game. You either have to draft them, find a untapped gem, or pay out the nose to get one.

Comrie ended up being fools gold but that doesn't suddenly make the attempt completely without merits.

Considering all the goalies who have moved around and switched teams through trades and various other deals over the last 3 years I'd say it was like rolling a pair of dice knowing they had to come up double sixes or you lose. I suppose we should be happy Murray didn't waive his no trade clause or Adam's goaltending botchery would have been even worse.  As is, it's pretty bad though all the same.

To move Comrie you are eating half his salary and taking a conditional 7th back.

He can’t stay healthy and has been brutal when in between the pipes.

Waive him and put him in Rochester until an injury happens unless they want him gone and are looking at another vet goalie.

Toker is an AHL goalie and Cooley has been horrid this season so there is no help in the system.

But the point is- you can't predict ahead of times which ones will bloom and which will thud.  When we picked him up I seem to remember someone did a comparison and he looked comparable to Hasek with Chicago.  It was worth a shot.  It's frustrating I know, but Kevyn's whole philosophy is based on value contracts in order to build a roster that provides sustainable performance.

Or in others words Kevyn is too worried about winning the cup in five years than he is this year.

Yep, that's the frustrating part.

Part of the frustration is at this point, we don't even know if it will work.  Hopefully in a year or two we'll see progress being made, but it feels like the build has stalled out.  Maybe it's growing pains for bringing too many young players in too quickly, and eventually they'll find their legs.

I'm not saying they're definitely making a move but yes I'm sure he's always out there doing "due diligence" just in case the right deal comes up.

I honestly can't believe this. If he was really looking for a goalie there were many opportunities over his tenure and he didn't make any big moves in that direction. To think he'd switch gears now and make a goalie move just doesn't seem likely to me.

Common sense said they should have added a better veteran goalie than Comrie and most people here think he has done a poor job on goaltending but I think he will remain steadfast on his letting the kids grow together thing and that includes Levi and UPL as his goalies.

You're talking about acquiring a goalie; I'm talking about moving on from one.

I don’t think it’s an issue of investing what went wrong with the hospital.  I’m sure they understand how ERs work.

It’s more likely that the NHL/NHLPA have protocols that if the player can not be helped at the normal ER within X amount of time, then they have some sort of on call specialist take care of him.  Somehow those protocols weren’t or couldn’t be followed and they are looking into why.

At least that’s my interpretation of the situation.

This time of year... nothing went wrong... bettin they arent used to having to wait... welcome to the real world... pay some doc enough and his/her short staff and maybe...

No, he looked like a guy that hadn’t managed to play more than 20 games in a decade

not like…Hasek

Hasek lol

It was a bad bet by the prism of the moment. Very predictable. I predicted it. Lots predicted it.
