Both would’ve been in the neighborhood of 5yr/$25M but Briere got a boatload offer from Philly and Drury left them hanging when Rangers called. Had the Sabres had any foresight, they would’ve had deals done during the season and the franchise’s last decade looks totally different. No tank, no Eichel, no decade of no playoffs. Hey, now. Let's not overdramatize things. It was FOUR first round picks....And most of those were at the top of the draft. It languished on Golisano's desk LITERALLY for weeks & by the time Tommy got around to approving the deal, Drury said let's wait until til after the season to finalize it. That was the correct move. But at the time, people would have stormed Marine Midland Arena (or whatever it was called then, I forget) with torches and pitchforks.
