The Real Reason We Won the Lottery

Having seen the Sabres miss out on the top pick before, Bandura opted to change things up this time. Rather than have a representative in the room where the lottery order was being determined, he declined the invitation.

"We had someone in there in the past. I thought we needed to do something different to alter our luck from those previous instances," Bandura said with a laugh, nodding at general manager Jason Botterill.

"Good thing he did," a grinning Botterill replied. "Because it worked."

So the lottery isn't rigged, eh? Looks like we gave Bettman the ol' nudge-nudge wink-wink and turned the other way so he could do his own thing this time. Turns out Bettman, not unlike a very ugly child or a petty partner, will only do things if he believes they're his own idea.

So hats off to the Bandura Butthole for having the foresight into hindsight to put these pieces together and pull one out for the team. Well played, sir. Well played

I dunno, Randall. I would look into the Observer Effect and the subtle change in the atmospherics in the room.

This works for me ^

In a sport where 99% of the executives are ex players who wear different coloured socks and don't wash their gonch because of superstitions its no wonder they tried to change things up. Somethings got to give.

Are you just messing? What's the Observer Effect you're referring to?

Well, there's an observer effect in psychology. That's the one I was thinking of.

But lottery balls are inanimate objects that can't modify their behavior. Bettman, though, could have delayed his draw by a few seconds because he glanced around the room and couldn't find the familiar face of Antonio Bandura.

Alas! There is an observer effect in physics. This is the real smoking gun!

I was hoping you'd bring up the quantum one! Unfortunately, lottery balls have too many atoms to behave like a quantum system macroscopically.

Anyway, I don't care if Botterill was on his knees praying to Tom Cruise for the lottery to go our way, as long as he knows how to put together a hockey team

We get our top end player, and that's no slight on Eichel.  It's our turn to get the number 1 pick in a draft class that we so needed it.  This franchise has been showing up for underwhelming hockey for 6 years.  It is a market starving for progress.  Look at when Eichel sold out the Harbor Center in minutes.

The Canucks legitimately tried to get their mascot to be the representative, and the NHL said no.

That would have been a lot more entertaining, seeing mascots there doing their thing to celebrate/anticipate the picks.

Well, I think I like Vancouver now.

Ashton Kutcher Effect.

...Sorry, Butterfly Effect.

Oh hell ya. Although Botterill’s performance was pretty fun.

I thought what PA said was true, but man, JBotts face was quite distinguished from the other 2 guys, like they knew.

You do realise that PA talks out of his a$$, right?   :P

Just kidding, PA ... WE LOVE YOU!!

+++++

I really do think that they all knew before they went on TV.

This is up there with "the whole thing is rigged." As I understand it, the observers go in the room and stay there, without communication devices. I don't know if Bettman, the accounting firm, league reps stay there, however.

I thought we won because we all translated our names to Swedish for most of the season. Whoever had that idea deserves a beer.

I feel like there's no way they didn't know when the final 3 picks were announced. Botts mouth kept twitching into an almost -eating grin and the Carolina GM had a gauntness on his face that conveyed "I can't believe I still have to stand through this, we lost, I want to leave".
