As if picking a d man this draft was going to somehow miraculously save this teams atrocious defensive corps and depth. Whether we picked 6, 7 or 8 is irrelevant. Tanking or no tanking, Colorado shouldn't be picking 4th after that season. It's imperative that the Sabres have no reason to watch this next season. I'm not - they have 3 cups. We aren't shelling out what he'll want for his next contract, which by the way, is his set me up for term and money deal. I agree, move him, bring in a pure LW, left handed shot. Eichel will have Baptiste on his RW next season moat likely. They need a pure LW'er. UFA isn't the answer this year. A couple of trades need to happen. We didn't get hosed every year. This is the first recent year where we were very unlucky. It was not likely we'd fall back 2 spots. But we did. But I agree. But starting out a new expansion franchise with a #6 is objectively stupid. All the way around. It would have been fine if they were #1 no matter what or a #4 minimum with lottery odds. If I'm George McPhee, I pound NJ, Philly, Dallas, Colorado, and Vancouver as hard as I can in the expansion draft, then try to ransom back those players for a move up in the draft. The Sabres picked the right year to tank. Good call. And Philly moving from #13 to #2 is hot garbage. You know what they would have had to trade to pull that off? It effectively hasn't been done since Ottawa fleeced NYI for #2 (Spezza), Chara, and Muckalt for Yashin in 2001. That's what 2.4% buys you. Dallas was only 1 goalie away from being in the playoffs. Would they trade the #3 for one?
