I did miss that! I forgot you have to have some form of cabbage in there, as well. Now I want a fish fry. 1 Quote

That was a week ago Friday. This past Friday I was going to get a fish fry at our local Buffalo bar. They had the fish fry but their daily special was a Cuban sandwich. I lurve me a good Cuban. Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago Ever since going to the UK I'm spoiled with fish... We have some decent options around here but it doesn't hit the same.... I've been frying my own up with a traditional British batter, getting fresh cod or haddock locally and hand cutting the potatoes and doing the double crisp method. It's officially getting into stew/soup/fish fry season 2 Quote

When my son was in HS (band nerd, not football team, but I went to the games), the football team got their butts handed to them every year by three strong teams in their district. A good year was when they beat the two other teams in the district. They never had better than a 3-7 season. Then when my son was a junior, they got their butts handed to them by one of the strong teams, making them 1-4 on the season so far. The next week was Homecoming against the second strong team. In a muddy mess of a rain storm, they came out ahead, 10-6. The following week they played the third strong team and.... beat them too. They didn't lose for the rest of the season and won a state championship (this is Texas, mind you). But only by being challenged did they get any better. Edited 20 hours ago by Doohickie Quote

Now I kind of wish I would have let him call my wife so I could get it right the second time. Hell, I'd offer for him to call my 1 year old while he's at it, except I don't want to give out even the slightest amount of personal information like that. I did just send a message to the attorney general's office though. I have the phone number and the company name, but I'm sure that's not enough. And who knows how it works with it being out of state. I got a very disappointing response from the NC AG office. They sent me a generic message about how to report robocalls, a very clear message that they didn’t bother to read the fairly short message I sent them. Quote

Pimlach Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago AAA came over and put a new battery in my SUV yesterday. The price for a good quality 4 year warranty battery installed was $210. This was after an alternator test and confirmation that a cell went bad. I didn't have to pull out tools, get dirty, drive to a store, or return a battery for recycling. That sounded like a lot of money but it is very much comparable to 1976 prices, the year I bought my first car, when adjusted for inflation. Some things might be better today after all. Quote
Doohickie Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago That's typical for a battery these days (for a non-hybrid). I got the battery replaced on my wife's Escape this summer (one month after the warrant expired naturally). O'Reilly says they replace batteries but I'm not sure they knew what they were getting into when they did the Escape. The battery is up against the firewall, beneath the cowl, which had to be removed, which meant pulling the windshield wipers. Not actually that hard of a job but significantly more involved that undoing the battery clamp and dropping a new one in. I then remembered that the reason we went to the repair shop last time is O'Reilly said it wasn't a simple replacement and they couldn't do it for free. But they did this time. Quote
