Huckleberry
Oy. If he's getting $8M, then he's gonna have more than HC in his title, yeah? I was never down for a HC + de facto GM I don't mind that a coach has a say in player personell and his roster for obvious reasons, but a gm should always have the final say when it comes to trades. But the way it was portrayed in the media of what babcock wanted i doubt he really wanted a gm + coach title.

TrueBlueGED
The WGR callers right now are far more of a tire fire than the Toronto hockey situation is. Good lord.

TrueBlueGED
Seriously. The reports of $6M made me a little uneasy. $7M or $8M? See ya. Doesn't move the needle for me--once you triple a coach's salary, quadrupling is just like whatever. I wouldn't have blinked at 10.

Huckleberry
Exactly. Money wasn't the issue. People are grasping. If its 7 - 8 million i think it is, Even Pegula at one point will say , enough is enough i can't pay more than 6 mill a year for a coach without upsetting the entire league. ddaryl
Exactly. Money wasn't the issue. People are grasping. ROTFLMAO the Sabres were not going to raise there offer any more. They were not going ot be used in a bidding war. Their offer was more than substantial... LMAO I hope Murray gets a 50 year extension just to piss you off
LGR4GM
I think Babcock went back to Toronto after Buffalo thought they were getting him... and said then said done.
TheFunPolice
How important is a hockey coach, honestly? I am more of a football fan than a hockey fan, so forgive me if that's blasphemy or something. In football, coaches are extremely important, calling plays on offense, defense, and special teams, challenging plays, making hundreds of decisions each week. On the other hand, I always feel like in hockey it's more player-driven with the coach adding a lot less than an NFL coach adds. Am I wrong on that? TrueBlueGED
Exactly. Money wasn't the issue. People are grasping. Don't put words into my mouth. I meant "me" as in me personally...it's not my money, It could have been about the money to the team, that it gets to the point where yes Babcock is the best, but he's not twice as good. JJFIVEOH
$8 million a year for a hockey coach? LOL No thanks. Sorry but he is not worth it. You can find a good coach to work for half that who can also win you a cup. He wasn't worth $5mil either.
