Soccer (Football) ~ Everything About The Beautiful Game

He'll probably get more out of the team in the near term - which is good.

Any idea of who the technical director will be? Evidently, that's the more long-term concern.

Arena is 65 now, so he'll coach through the next World Cup (assuming he can get the team in) and then someone else will take over. Tab Ramos is a future option.

I never liked Klinsmann's tendency to play guys in positions they didn't play on their club teams. Hopefully, Arena will get guys into their natural spots.

I liked Klinsmann as technical director, and I think he will be missed there.

But, yeah - his choices as coach (manager) were often quite odd.

Damn ...

The Reds will be all fired up and the best fans in the MLS (yeah, I know ... MLS) will be too when they return for part 2 in Toronto.

Also, I think it is a mistake to let Klinsmann go at this juncture of WC qualifiers.

It's the end of an era in English football ...

Of course, it really ended in 2015, but we have to include his 2 years in LA, I suppose.

To bad about the championship they lost the year he went to the USA, they blew a 4 game lead :(

What happens if it ends 3-2?

On aggregate we are 5-5.

In Europe it would be two 15-min OT periods, not golden goal, followed by a shootout.  The "away goal" rule is even here.

Yeah, but does the MLS do stuff like in Europe?

The away goal rule would still result in 5-5 and no tie breaker.

Must be OT.  That only makes sense.  Oh, right it's MLS, so they will probably draw straws, or something.

Et un autre but.

6+ minutes of stoppage time.

What gives?  Really.

It's not stoppage time, NS.  It's OT.

Montreal desperately needs two to tie.

6+ minutes of stoppage time.

What gives?  Really.

EDIT TO ADD:

deux!!

And it is still going on.

The MLS is hopeless.

Dude, it is OT and NOT STOPPAGE TIME!

OK.

I am trying to follow along on CBC.ca blog of the match and it's hard.

Why did they not stop at 90+ and start OT at 0?

Same reason they start the second half at 45 and not 0, I guess?

They start the first OT at 90 and the second at 105.

Also, I'm watching a French broadcast.  Love the fact that they call OT "en prolongation," like both teams hit up some Cialis after regular time.

Just watched Barcelona-Madrid.  Crazy end to the game, Madrid will be happier about it.

Ray Hudson (Horrible, horrible Spanish football commentator for English-language TV) and Jack Edwards need to be strapped to the same rocket and fired directly into the sun, however.  I have no idea why anyone thinks he's good.  Edwards, at least, can be avoided.  Hudson can only be muted.

What a great, great player.

I wonder how long it will take for the club to retain him on some basis -- even just for appearances and public relations. (Sorry if that's discussed in the article - I could not click through.)

Hmmm. Perhaps some Sabres need songs like that.

Yeah. American fans don't really sing like that. We just don't.

It's not unlike a comparison between singing in the CoE and in American Catholic churches. Dem Protestants BELT it out.
