  1. Maybe he'll wake up tomorrow at 6am and be fine.
  2. Nope. Unlike previous years, when they annoyingly waited until the last second to determine if they were going, the NHL's going to meet in about six months to discuss the next Olympics. Olympic hockey grows the sport, gives the league more exposure, and boosts revenues for its contracted television partner. Three of the league's favorite things. More fans, more interest, more money.
  3. Agreed. Imagine only being able to attempt to achieve the highest honor in your sport only every four years, and not meeting your own expectations. Those women played hard, and they should be proud of their accomplishments and sportsmanship.
  4. Lindy Ruff liked to go bowling, saw him a couple times over at Sheridan Lanes on afternoons when they didn't have games.
  5. For some levity: I was curious to see this, as I hadn't seen the photo before. I figured it was worthwhile, as this is an important, somber part of Sabres history. I google image searched "Tim Horton Accident Photos." There are a surprisingly enormous number of idiots that crash through the doors, windows, and walls of donut shops.
  6. BREAKING NEWS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44bT3S3Rx5I
  7. Flapping heads and beady eyes.
  8. NHL on TSN ‏@NHLonTSN 1h The Buffalo Sabres today announced that the team has terminated the contract of forward Linus Omark. #TSN #NHL
  9. I think the hockey has been isolated to NBCSN on purpose, in order to drive ratings on that network. In some fairness, there's been a lot of medal games on the primetime NBC feeds, and the medal games for hockey really, really must be on NBC. Is it fair to air preliminary round hockey instead of medal round of combination ski jump biathlon(I just invented that)? Who knows. That's pretty sweet. I know countries want to show off their modern engineering marvels in stadium technology, especially since they'll use those stadiums long term for future events, but it'd be sweet to have a throw-back winter olympics with outdoor hockey and curling like that.
  10. Because they want the cord-cutters to be SOL.
  11. As long as the Olympics are on...the Sabres aren't winning games! TANK ON!
  12. As long as no-helmet MacT is running the show in Oilgrad, anything's possible.
  13. As long as we're not out the draft pick, the kid can do what he likes.
  14. Yeah, that was good. Lay down to block, shooter tries to wait, one handed sweep check the puck off shooter's stick, shooter regains possession, instead of getting up, use the legs to spring off the boards for an even better one handed sweep check." I don't like the unis either.
  15. I was trying to avoid this, because I knew it was coming: But yeah, my thermometer doesn't care about anything. Living in Buffalo taught me how to deal with snow, rain, and clouds. Living in Madison taught me how to deal with cold-cold and wind. Every year it'd be below 25-32 with no thaw for more than a consecutive month. Cold-cold is nice sometimes, especially if it's not windy. A lot of time it's sunny, and the snow crunches under your feet. Real low humidity. 40 degrees and raining is probably my least favorite. I'd actually like to see it snow in LA, just once, and only like 0.5". I'd have no problem with it, but society would just crumble in the worst ways imaginable around here. I'm pretty sure within a half hour of the first flakes, you'd see some serious Road Warrior ###### at grocery stores and gas stations.
  16. Ugh. Not comparing: I took a puck on the inside of my thigh (you know, that spot in your breezers) in the third period last game, because some dummy thought it'd be a good idea to shoot from below the goal line along the boards (Jochen Hecht's brother?). Now I've got a 6" circular black welt mid thigh. It's not the first time, and it's not the last time. We held them off 3-2. I'll live.
  17. Could be some new method of trying to balance the workload. But we've seen how that works out in the playoffs; it seems like it's better to find the hot goalie and let it ride. And not that I want our Tank to have anything to do with Team USA, whose only goal should be to win the ###### out of the Olympics, if Miller doesn't play, he doesn't get injured.
  18. If he can spin that into an analogy about hockey, I'll allow it. Heh, analogy.
  19. I partly agree with this. Like I said, I saw some value in Sekera, didn't hate it. Maybe the best way way to phrase my argument is: I didn't think that Sekera was *so good* as to want to rebuild around him, especially with the prospect depth at D. He seemed like a career 3-4 defenseman. So move him, collect the pick for Compher (whom even Devine said was expected to be late 1st round) and a patchwork defender in McBain (who, depending on the coach, is probably a career 4-5 defensemen). I think Sekera was worth the equivalent of a late 1st and serviceable defenseman. And I think that trade startsto look a little lopsided for us now that Compher looks like a point-getting wrecking ball freshman in the B1G. I'm glad Sekera's playing well in Carolina, but is he a top pair defensemen on a team that has other defensemen? (Faulk, Hainsey, Liles, Murphy, Harrison, and Bellemore fill out CAR's back end.)
  20. Generally when a prosecutor figures this out, the case is withdrawn or dismissed, and they stop wasting the taxpayers' time and money.
  21. Whaa? I mean, I never hated on Sekera, but I saw a log-jam at defense (especially after selecting Risto and Zads) and Compher had nothing but great remarks said about him. It is. Previous players that I can remember having point per game freshman seasons in the now-Big-Ten schools: Kyle Turris 35P in 36GP Jonathan Toews 39P in 42GP TJ Oshie 45P in 43GP Some guys with better than point per game freshman seasons: Phil Kessel 51P in 39GP Dany Heatley 56P in 38GP Brendan Morrison 48P in 38GP JT Compher (24P in 24GP) is 3rd among all skaters in the Big Ten in points per game, 1st among freshmen skaters in Big Ten, and 5th among all NCAA D1 freshmen forwards. Jake McCabe, btw, is 2nd among Big Ten defensemen and 14th among NCAA D1 defensemen in points per game with 19P in 26GP
  22. I'll enjoy hockey at any level. But I've never heard of Nichols or Timon playing with this level of emotion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuOXp5VE4So Also, from Team USA, I vote for Amanda Kessel, 2013 Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year.
