William Carrier - via st.louis 2013 2nd round
IKnowPhysics replied to X. Benedict's topic in The Aud Club
Upon taking a closer look, this kid has a ###### ton of upside. Something Murray said in his press conference tipped me off... he said that they considered him to be a first round talent that had injury trouble the year before his draft, which lowered his draft position. And it's true. THW said he was top-30 initially, then lowered him only to 38th: CSS ranked him 18th among North American skaters in their Final 2013 Rankings, and listed him as an 'A' skater in their 2013 preliminary rankings (check out his peers in the 'A' category here). Those final rankings put him above Max Domi, above Zadorov, above Lazar, above Morin, and well above Compher and Bailey. If TM knows his young talent, this could turn out to be a much bigger piece of the trade than it seems on the surface. -
William Carrier - via st.louis 2013 2nd round

It'd be the ###### if Tim Murray's superpower was finding hidden talent like that. Having a superpower is unlikely, but if TM had one, with his devotion to player evaluation, it'd be that. Like a Super Scout. "That's no ordinary 2nd round pick... it's a 90-point player in disguise!" -
William Carrier - via st.louis 2013 2nd round

From HF: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/william-carrier/ Sounds like a lower grade Zemgus, with a little less focus on Zemgus' strong backchecking. -
I'd like to admit that there was an omen in my household not too long ago that may have indicated that Miller was going to be traded and not resigned by Buffalo. I've washed dozens and dozens of hockey jerseys in the washing machine in my life, all with no problem, ever. Last month I washed my Miller jersey for the first time in a long, long time. And it was destroyed. Ripped apart, right around the crest. I'm not a very superstitious fellow, but I knew that if he were to be traded, it would be a very uncanny coincidence. I will now buy a Drew Stafford jersey and be sure to put that ###### on NOT DELICATE.

Couple months of Miller and Ott for Halak UFA goalie. 13th in SV% Leaders, 9th in GAA Leaders. Chris Stewart (drafted 18th overall in 2006 by COL 50-65 point player), RW, signed at $4.15M through 2014-15. William Carrier (drafted 57th overall in 2013 by STL), LW, currently playing for Cape Breton in the QMJHL. 42 points in 34 games, which is point equivalent to 30 points in the NHL. 1st round pick in the 2015 Connor McDavidathon. 3rd round pick in 2016. Now, we sign Ott as a UFA this year, and we're good to go. Love the return on this. Curious to see how Stewart will do. Curious to learn to see how Carrier develops. Excited for the 2015 draft, especially if NY defers and shits the bed again.

Partly my bad. I didn't see the new thread start up. Let's keep it all there. -
"Increasingly Substantiated BS" rumor thread- 2014 Edition

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 4m Amid reports Ryan Miller/Steve Ott scratched tonite, much speculation BUF is close to trading one or both. STL? Or just asset protection? Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 58s Not saying this is it, but one scenario that has definitely been discussed: 3-way trade involving BUF, STL and OTT. A # of variations. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 1m STL would get Miller, OTT would get Chris Stewart, BUF would get prospects from OTT. If Ott (the player) included to STL, 1st rder to BUF. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 47s That scenario I laid out is speculative but has been discussed this week by the teams. -
I look forward to stuff like this once I start spawning.

Less than five days until the deadline... THE QUICKENING IS UPON US! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqhHgT4mvRQ -
It would be baller to wrap up the trade, tell him that this will be his last game, then start him. Tell the team in the locker room before warmups. Then announce to the crowd at the start of the game that this will be his last game, and let 'em go wild for him. It doesn't make a lot of logistical sense, especially in the injury risk/reward sense. But I don't know of it being done any other time in history in any sport, save for the last game of a season when a player is pretty much assumed to be a UFA.

Big young top six center. Plays a great two way game, puts points on the board. Potentially the next Joe Pavelski. -
Using point equivalency, that could equate to 43 points (based on his season) to 62 points (based on his February) over an 82 game NHL season. For reference, MacKinnon's on pace for 62 points this season, and Reinhart's scoring more points per game than he did.

Eh, and why take just 10 when you can have 20 instead! -
You complete me. I like where we are with respect to D prospect depth. And we definitely are lacking in forward depth, especially high-talent, hard-to-find scoring. So unless our hand is forced to take Ekblad (either because he's that good, or he's that much better than what's available to us at selection time), we should definitely be grabbing forwards like plastic hippos grabbing marbles. We should also be closely examining the goalie situation, but forwards should definitely come first in the higher rounds.
