  1. Although I understand the cap dump and MN's desire to get rid of him, I'd rather not get Heatley or I'd want to get him and flip him into picks, but it's too early to complain about things that haven't happened yet.
  2. Both Miller and Enroth are healthy. Keep a close eye on Twitter to see if Hackett (or anyone else) is recalled, as that'll be a huge flag that a goaltending move is pending.
  3. I believe in the power of science and engineering. Tampa vs Florida in Sun Life Stadium And no one would attend.
  4. Four years down the line, you got a hell of a position down the middle with Hodgson, Toffoli, Girgensens. That lets Ennis go back to the wing and lets Grigorenko play wing.
  5. This slideshow parading as a sports article is a great example of a Buffalo outsider* trying to write like an insider. Goon/tough guy/pest semantics aside, there's no way a diligent journalist describes Rob Ray as the biggest anything without mentioning that he's the #6 all-time penalty minute holder, inspired the Rob Ray Rule, and punched a fan. And if you're going to conjure Barnaby, it's worthwhile to do so in the context of faking of injuries during fights and constant death threats. It's a good post, because it'll spark discussion, but I also realize that it'd be nice for someone to properly compile the completely zany antics and pugilistic achievements committed by these on-ice monsters/heroes. edit: * Upon further investigation, this guy only writes about the Sabres, and has only been doing so since late December. So he's new at it. Additionally, rantsports is the poor man's bleacherreport, so journalists need not apply. Maybe he'll get better with time. Or not. Whatever.
  6. Tank Commander should stay for now. He contributes to the tank and eats up salary cap floor. In the future, maybe after next season, we can reevaluate him. Maybe he'll find it again during that time, and make it worth it to keep him, but probably not. Not with this roster.
  7. Wow, Vanek got jobbed. That's a really bad call.
  8. This isn't always intuitive, but as one becomes a better skater, they get better at both ends of the ice. I don't believe he was lost in his own end as much as he was a step behind the play a lot of times, and this will greatly be helped by his effort to improve his skating. I also think the aggressiveness required for good two-way play is also boosted by the confidence that comes with his improved skating ability- he now knows he can stay with opponents, allowing himself to break away from conservative positioning at both ends. IE, I don't think it was effort or awareness, I think it was skating ability and a dash of confidence.
  9. Bah defeat! Feels good. I suppose we better start rooting for the Oilers to win.
  10. Must lose. Edmonton's still only three points ahead and we now have three games in hand. Calgary's helped us out by winning their last two. The moneyline (+185, -204) is pretty tilted in our favor,so if there's anything to that, we should be just fine.
  11. There's no turning this thing around before we take it apart and rebuild it.
  12. Yes it is. We're beyond tanking.
  13. Sabres call up Ruwedhel, send down Pysyk. Oh it's on. It's also not a bad move: Pysyk will be able to play in Rochester during the Olympic break.
  14. Fair counter point, and fair rebuttal. If I trust my scouts, Kevin Porter was a 4th round pick, and JT Compher was pegged by our guys as a late 1st rounder.
  15. I strongly expect that Compher's going to be better than Sekera. Compher's got 16 points in 19 games for the Wolverines as a freshman, which, according to NHL equivalency whosywhatsits, works out to 28 points on an NHL season as an 18 year old. Give him about four years, and you should get a strong second liner that plays a great two-way game with high effort. Compare that to the opportunity cost of letting Sekera go for McBain or any of Sekera's future replacements (Pysyk, Risto, Zadorov, McCabe, ...), and it'a win. Especially considering our organizational depth at wing.
  16. Welp, Hodgson has six points in his six games back from injury. So he's got that going for him. Which is nice.
  17. Not sure if this was posted elsewhere yet, but it's relevant to the speculation discussion.
  18. If he's already going to be in the area during the season (and off season too), why not just throw him a broadcast gig too!
  19. It's funny that people make jokes like this, but I read it, and then I'm like: It's entirely feasible that these short-term call-ups are getting these young guys NHL exposure in front of scouts. That would make sense pre-trade deadline.
  20. You gotta disable the "oil on canvas" filter.
  21. Classic. I don't think Rob should stop doing color commentary, I just want him to get better at it. I want him to succeed and not be let go/replaced because he couldn't hack it. That's the tone of my complaint constructive criticism. That said, I still want Marty on the broadcast.
