I think fans think that the 'code' is still a thing, but I think you are right that it really isn't anymore. It hasn't been for a long time, IMO. Certainly, Lucic-Miller time frame it was not a thing. Goose fighting Lucic next game was just silly. The Sabres probably heard about the 'lack of response' and the 'code' stuff in the media. That said, I think there could be something said about retaliation / retribution if someone runs your goalie, but it needs to be immediate.

Damn is right. On the other hand, TG didn't take over a team that was about to be gutted. Bankrupt, yes, but not about to be torn to the studs, or less. I give full marks to the NHL when they controlled the team for that brief, but stressful, period that they let DR run it in a reasonable fashion and the NHL payed the bills. If that didn't happen, at very least, the Sabres would not be in Buffalo now and at worst would have folded. So, the 8 years under TG cannot be compared to the 8 under TP. We will need another few years, maybe by year 10 the team will be back to where it was when TG took over. Damn!!
