My observation is that Toronto is falling into the Jack Eichel trap. Every time Matthews was on the ice, all of his teammates were deferring to him. We all know how that ends. I was not convinced at any point before the empty netter that we had things in hand. Toronto was dangerous all game. But Toronto was not playing a team game. They were playing an Austin Matthews game.

The longer the current good play remains relatively consistent, the more confident I feel that a goalkeeper may be enough to get us in playoff contention.

He’s definitely imposing his will early in the game. Not flashy. More like a simple “not today”.

I didn’t see toughness im his play. But he’s got a calmness to it. And he uses his stick well to direct the opposing forward to where he wants him to go. I suspect some toughness will creep in as he gets stronger.

His game looks remarkably like Mule’s game tonight. If he develops Mules strength….. wow.

If he's forsaking the team that drafted him, I hope he ends up falling back on that business degree. I'm not wishing him injury or anything. But I'm not wishing him success outside of Buffalo either. And if he signs with Buffalo next year at this time, I'm his biggest fan, along with a million other Sabres fans.

What a waste of a 3rd rd pick. The chances those hit are relatively small, and it looked like we hit on this one. We’ll be lucky to get any value out of this at all. Imma be petty here. If he goes UFA I hope his NHL career crashes and burns.

I think he’s a 3rd line player. If we get to the point where he’s bumped to 4th line we’ll have a pretty talented fleet of forwards. I can’t really think of a legacy Sabre equivalent. Brian Holzinger without the speed maybe? Is Ric Seiling a comparable? He’s not a Selke level defensive player IMO, but he’s solid defensively. His scoring touch is below average. I think he’s a valuable player that might be overvalued on this roster.

I seem to recall that you raised a red flag about Power shortly after he was drafted. At least my memory thinks it was you. Glad to hear there is a big turnaround if accurate.
