  1. I mean really, we are the same as Edmonton at this point. They got 4 first OALs. We got 2 firsts and 2 second OALs. The shraderenfreude is strange.
  2. Dahlin and Power disagree.
  3. I trust that he wasn’t good enough on a team that was defensively shallow, and isn’t terribly likely to be good enough on a deeper team today. As mentioned above, he’d be outside of the top 4 LHD right on the depth chart today.
  4. Lingering covid symptoms.
  5. He wasn’t good enough then. He sure as hell won’t be good enough now.
  6. Yeah, but the thread is about Fairburn.
  7. And that is why I believe it will need to be crammed home. The politicians on the right do not have a sincere interest in helping. There is too much NRA money to be lost.
  8. Can you honestly say you perceive sincerity in wanting a solution from the right?
  9. The other side has shown repeatedly that there is no compromise. Thank you NRA. This is only getting done one way. As I’ve said up thread, the other side won’t be invited to the table because they won’t compromise and they won’t defy the NRA.
  10. Up until now you’ve hinted at this with plenty of talking points laced in between that are too commonly heard among politicians that aren’t really interesting in solving this. Thank you for laying out your position. We’re mostly in agreement. I’ve seen a well working ban get ended due to politics. My only large change to your thoughts are to not give it an expiration date. If it isn’t working as intended it can be ended legislatively if needed. Politically you can do something to help. You can stop supporting the pols who are stonewalling efforts to reduce the violence.
  11. Except its not 30yr old data. Removal of access works. Today. Root cause from the last 2 shootings, access to weapons of mass destruction. Implementation needs to consider today. The cause is unchanged. It’s always been about access.
  12. We’ve done a commendable job of making other instruments of mass destruction difficult to obtain. Assault rifles need to catch up. And new things get dealt with as they appear. Why is this not difficult for the rest of the world, but a major undertaking for threat identifiers and responders here?
  13. What he is saying is, taking guns will result in fire fights. I don’t think he’s incorrect. Any method will need to very carefully consider the 10s of thousands of these things already in circulation. It won’t be a quick path to eliminating mass shootings.
  14. America has a unique problem with mass shootings. They don’t have a unique problem with mental illness, extreme nationalism, bullying, economic inequality, or any of a number of sociopolitical issues. The rest of the world has very readily solved the issue of mass shootings in the face of all of these non unique issues. The solution is very straight forward. You are still stuck on motivation when root cause is access.
  15. Good. Lets start with what we already know works and move on from there.
  16. Immediate action? Holy *****! This has been a problem for decades. How about some action?
  17. Where am I misunderstanding? I acknowledged that you aren’t an NRA guy. I acknowledged that you aren’t buying what the GOP is selling. I am responding to you trying to justify doing all kinds of things that have been talking points for decades but don’t acknowledge the one thing that is common. Regardless of motivator or political-cultural landscape it had always been access that has determined mass shootings in USA.
  18. You are focused on a changing rationale when you should be focused on an unchanging root cause. And I am saying you would be dismissed because of your unwillingness to accept the change needed to remove root cause.
  19. Ugh. 3x post. Apologies. 0311, I suspect you are where I was 15yrs ago. You know the NRA is flat out lying to folks. And you know GOP is flat out lying to folks. And you know the position both of them hold in this discussion is wrong. But you are clinging to this ideal that because you are responsible and not inclined towards violence (I assume) that there must be a way to divine the risk from the responsible so everyone can have their cake and eat it too. But this is the flaw. There is a very direct correlation between market availability and number of incidents. No matter matter what root cause methodology you use, availability of these weapons and magazines are the root cause of mass shootings. Hopefully it doesn’t take another school getting shot up for your epiphany. The fact that you know already they are lying to you should have your spider sense tingling.
  20. Except the contents of out safes are the least important of these. The right had wanted to study this to death for decades….. and never puts the funding in place to do the studies. This is a red herring. And we already know that banning assault weapons works as is. We’ve got the before and after data, and we have an entire world community as additional test cases. Study, study, study is deflection, deflection, deflection. And is why you are not going to grt to be part of the solution. Except the contents of out safes are the least important of these. 21. Another point. This tyranny of the minority via the need for 60 votes in the Senate will ultimately be overcome. There is a great majority that has had enough of the gun rights crowds insistence on not actively seeking ways to avoid the carnage. As a result of your insistence and truculence, you will not be at the table when decisions are finally made and moved forward. Your continued unwillingness to propose a solution within will keep you out. And consequently you will lose much more than if you would have acted proactively when offered the opportunity. Obfuscation like “A pistol without the ability to attach a suppressor or grip is still just as lethal. Just one example.” will be met with a response like, “oh Ok. We’ll ban those too. Thank you for your help”. If you want to be taken as serious regarding the problem of mass shootings, start pressing your leadership to make changes like mandatory background check, licensing, and mandatory storage requirements. Until that happens you will be seen (and rightfully so) as part of the problem. The time is rapidly running out for gun owners to step up and offer and implement solutions instead of spitting out the same rhetoric thats been spit for decades after every mass killing. We will move on without you. Edit- I get pissed, and am furious as I write this, because as a gun owner and shooter this stupid, stubborn unwillingness to accept change is going to end up negatively affecting me and the contents of my safe. And all I feel right now is a hearty ***** you to all of you that are willing to throw out the baby with the bath water.
  22. It was an effective definition, and thats all that matters. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of better. And a well trained shooter is more lethal with a 20rd mag than 10: This is simple. Whether you liked the definition or not, The 1993 assault weapon ban worked. We have 3-4x the number of mass shootings compared to during the decade the assault weapon ban was in place. Frequency and number of mass shootings blew up immediately after it sunsetted. The definition and capacity restriction worked well enough to reduce mass shootings considerably. The word salad you are using is the same obfuscation the NRA has been using since I was a member in the 80’s and 90’s. The data is obvious. Mass shootings become more frequent as military variant weapons and high capacity magazines become more commercially available. It is time to permanently remove their commercial availability. Regardless ot whether you specifically are responsible enough to own them, we as a society have been demonstrating for decades that society is not responsible enough for them to remain on the market.
