With the usual āitās preseasonā caveats, Iām curious about our first look at whether or not we have 3 lines this year. As a Benson truther and someone who thinks Tage might have a career year, I feel pretty good about the 1st line but thereās certainly projection there. Tuch McLeod Zucker feels like it might be a safe line 2, but the question remains about how real the latter two were last season. Quinn Doan and Kulich is an intriguing but unproven mix as 3rd line. Sure would nice if we can roll them over -

The Hopium Den: 10 reasons why the Sabres could be better this year

Benson just needs a finisher willing to go to the crease on occasion and float for soft spots (Satan-like) at other times. Between Norris and TNT, he should have a solid season. I figure sometime in the next 5 years, he's going to get one lucky Sabre a big 35+ goal payday that they really aren't worth. It'll be fun. -

People naturally distrust groups not like them. Ever watched out the window when a new family moves into the neighborhood or wondered what that car is doing parked down the road late on a Friday night? Congratulations you have a survival instinct which makes you observe things outside of the baseline. -
Injury update, Sept 26, 2025: Samuelsson Week to Week

Iām glad the Sabres are paying Samuelsson to sit on his ass every season for 30-40+ games. Definitely deserving of the A -
Still do. His name is Mike Ansell. https://www.nhl.com/sabres/team/staff Heās one of 12 coaches employed by the Sabres.

Why can't Paul Hamilton say the name Helenius?

How it is supposed to be pronounced: "Hell-en-eee-us?" Not as easy as the monosyllabic "Krebs" but doesn't seem THAT difficult to pronounce. -

The PDOcast (excellent hockey nerd pod) raving over Benson this morning in their annual preseason āOur Guysā edition, which is basically their take on players poised to show the hockey world how good they are. Fantastic quote on Bensonās size and points production as a teenager leading to terribly superficial and poorly informed hockey takes about his ability. āItās like catnip for the guys with the worst takes on hockey you know.ā They call Bensons game an āendless loop of winning battlesā¦and making good things happen out of thin air.ā Iāve rarely heard such a gushing take on a Sabre player anywhere, let alone from national analysts. Filipovic says his skill set is āmade in a labā to complement a guy like Thompson, with his ability to defend, and get the puck to high-danger areas. Drance called him the most obvious breakout candidate in the NHL. -

Generally, no. However, as a society we've built into our nature to focus on the negatives. Why do people like gladiator events? It's not for the charming kick-lines. We love violence. We crave it. As long as that's true tapping into the violent nature of people will not be hard to do. We also love power. And the promise of power or the use of power to dominate others remains a significant issue. There are rare cultures in history who didn't seek violence and desired to live in balance. -

I think the problem is that this team would be sunk if they lost ANY of those 3 players (or Dahlin) for a long stretch of time. -

Good thing those three guys aren't really injury prone. -
So I am not actually going to disagree here because of something that you alluded too... the only reason I see not to extend him is if those sweeping changes involve new GM, POHO and a tear down of the team... like literally a complete tear down... Dahlin Thompson Power etc... like you accept you are going to trade those guys for assets and start all over again... the philosophy "you lost consistently with them, you certainly can lose without them:...." Not being a proponent of the complete tear down (definitely am a proponent of blow up the FO) I do not want to see this happen... we have already lost one generational player via trade and one Bona fide Superstar in Reinhardt cause we didnt extend him... so to me if you believe this core has any value you have go to extend him... if not and you wanna see em all outta here then... I get where you are at....

I donāt believe a word of anything KA says publicly, so I donāt give that any value at all when deciding if Bryson lacks fire.
-
Levi didn't give up a goal in preseason, so he was the best goalie.... We should probably just be happy we don't have four on the roster.

a return to the 3-goalie platoon is a new level of forehead smacking WTF for this regime. w.t.f.

Metsa is also only 11 months younger than Bryson. He stuck around college longer than Bryson and was a 5th year COVID senior when he won that championship. The idea floating around in here that they might be very similar players, I think thereās some merit to that. One just happens to have 254 more NHL games under his belt than the other.
