Sabres makeover

  1. 1. What do you think is the most likely scenario this summer?

    • Kevyn Adams mostly stays the course, with typical mid-roster and assistant coaching moves
    • Adams makes several changes, with some big names being moved in and/or out
    • A new GM/POHO will be brought in to guide any makeover, with Adams being fired, or shuffled into a hands-off role.

A friend of mine was told by someone in the know who made the call not to lock up Sam long-term even though Sam wanted one. I think you can all figure out who made that call (Hint:There is a reason Botts got another GM gig and nobody in the league holds his tenure here against him).

And that same someone wanting O'Reilly gone is a substantial portion of why this nightmare won't end.  Don't punt O'Reilly, don't give Reinhart more time to think about how good it would be to be elsewhere, and then Eichel doesn't ask out of here.  You'd still have Dahlin to go with them.  Give Ullmark a LT offer at the time Reinhart should've gotten one and he likely doesn't bolt either.

That's a nice core to be building around.  Oh well.  Maybe this next try with only altering the players and not those choosing the strategies they'll be attempting to implement will be the charm.  (Is it already February 2 again?  It seems like it was just yesterday that it was here.  And the day before that.  And the day before that.  And ...)

Sounds like Leafs and Tavares are far apart.  What kind of deal would you offer him to come in. 3 years at $7.5 million?

I haven't looked at the Sabres cap lately so I don't know the numbers, but if going 3 years, I would offer him as much as I can, SHORT of causing problems with re-signing Tuch and Benson and McLeod.  If I can get those 3 locked up (and Bryam and/or who you get for Byram) and then STILL have money left over for Tavares, spend away.

That $4.4million cap hit for Skinner this year and the $6.4M cap hit for his buyout next year kinda stinks right now.

In a way it’s easy to put the pieces together there because we KNOW Botterill got fired because he didn’t agree with cutting costs. What are the odds HE was the one against doling out cash to Reinhart?

Really curious about the relative quiet on the Byram front in terms of the team and the return.

Everybody expects him gone, none of the Insiders have leaked anything on the where or the for who.

Im still expecting a Reinhart-sequel return: 2 pieces roughly worth a late 1st+ an early 2nd in total value: That’s what the Sabres gave up for Montour who had a similar game at a similar career point.

Montour also had a lesser pedigree and had achieved less in the NHL; so in theory Byram should return more.

But we’ve learned around here to temper our expectations.

Who is Mike Bundt and does he have sources beyond regurgitating the rumours we’ve all read around the internet?

I think he’s a wanna be insider just doing exactly as you say.  Cobbling together the internet garbage rumor mill (so a lot of BS) into one happy place.

Blocked me for stating it outright.

Adams says the Sabres have not discussed buying out Samuelsson and called those reports fake news.

I wouldn't buy him out either. He has 'some' value in this league. With cap going up...you should be able to move him for scraps...and free up additional space (which they already have plenty of).

Given the Skinner dancing last summer, I'm tempted to take him at his word.

Given the likelihood Adams is actively trying to trade Mule right now, not going to take him at his word.

He actually laughed at the absurdity of it

He lacks imagination. He also is blindingly loyal to players who's personality he likes.

He’s lacks the ability to develop a cohesive strategy. He lacks the ability to execute any developed strategy. He only ever had the concept of a plan. He’s spineless. He’s a scoundrel. He’s part and parcel will Pegula. And he’s obviously, and I don’t say this lightly - clearly quite stupid

he’s also severely balding

Adams should feel bad for the fans about the fact he is still the GM

A once congenial fellow has been radicalized.  Welcome aboard to the train whose destination is revolt-ville. 😀

Again, there is no plan for success under this regime. Byram will go for an underwhelming return. No one will want to sign here and they will say they tried a lot of things but trade are hard to complete, palm trees, taxes.

Same coaching staff returning tells us they aren’t serious and won’t be serious again this season.

They’ll complete this week by keeping 9 and drafting someone like Mrtka. It’s the Sabres way and I’m so sick and tired of it. WE DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER!!

What, “trust us bro” isn’t a good enough plan to the players?
