I certainly would sign JVR for his projection, 3 years 5.5 Million and Calvin DeHaan 1 year 1.6 Million. The top D available always gets an outrageous contract. The D list as a whole doesn't look so hot, which will drive him up even more. If you want defense, free agency is almost never the way to go. Columbus has $13 million to sign 7 players, including: Bjorkstrand Murray and Jenner, with Werenski and Milano coming next year. Tampa has $7 million to sign 5 players, including: Miller, with Kucherov, Point and four UFA regular defencemen coming next year. Winnipeg has $20 million to sign 9 players, including: Hellebuyck,Trouba, Lowry, Armia, and Morrisey. It gets worse next year when Myers, Laine, Wheeler and Connor’s deals are up. I'm perfectly fine trading picks for 23-year-olds. Our under-25 group is as good as most in the league. What we don't have is many good players in their prime.
