Buffalo Bills 2018-2019

This is true. But the QB argument is not about what can be done, but what is likely to be done. As others have said, there's no better way to consistently compete than with a top-flight QB. Going the decent and defense route sends you into essentially a 2-year window before the defense gets dismantled due to the cap.

If the Bills sell the world and end up with a HoF-level QB, nobody will care about the price. However, if they sell the farm and end up with Jameis Winston, they won't be better off than having kept Tyrod and built the roster more. It's definitely a risk, but that doesn't make it an unworthy risk.

What do you make of Foles and to a lesser extent Keenum this past season? Is the age of the NFL system quarterback upon us? (Stated another way: Has the league finally started to catch up with Belichick?)

Bills going to trade Jerry Hughes to the Giants with #12 and their 2 seconds for #2 (e3)

This....this is actually a really good idea.

Though as TSW points out, the Giants new DC runs a 3-4, and Hughes thrives as a DE in a 4-3

Shaq Lawson would be a cheaper option for a trade

Wouldn't be worth as much, and also plays a 4-3 though

And might actually do better in that 3-4. That's an interesting idea.

Shaq plays a 4-3. He was notable in his quotes when Rex left

I don't think Shaq's value would be much different from Hughes given the younger age and the cheaper contract compared to Hughes. It isn't always about performance.

Either way, you aren't getting enough value in trading either of them to replace having to trade both #12 and #22 this year as well as some later picks this year. It's not worth creating a new hole.

By that reasoning, he shouldn't want to come here, either.  Our top WR was Deonte Thompson, with 430 yards.  Kelvin finished with 217, Zay with 316, Matthews with 282.  Our WRs combined for 115 receptions.  That's only 3 more than Jarvis Landry had on his own. Antonio Brown has beaten that number twice.

Thompson signed a 1 year deal with the Cowboys, $2.5 million.

Giants traded Pierre Paul to the Bucs. This is great news for us. It likely means they are going after Chubb (DE) w the 2nd pick. So now instead of QBs going 1-3, Only 2 of the big 4 will be gone.

This should improve our odds of making a deal to move up and get a QB if Beane is so inclined. It also increases the likelihood that a good QB will still be available at 12.

Cleve and the Jets get their QB. After them the following teams are likely interested in a QB, but ....

5th Denver - signed Keenum

11th Miami - have Tannehill and cut Suh, probably need a DE

12th Bills -

15th Arizona - signed Glennon and Bradford. Do they have the draft capital to move up?

17th Chargers - Rivers is still really good.

So who do they want? Mayfield, Allen or Rudolph? It’s possible that all three could be available to us at 12.

Or it could mean the Giants plan to trade down.

Of those 3, Mayfield easily, for me.

I'm pretty sure we're going to have to trade up 2 more times if we want to get to 2.

12-->4,5,6

4,5,6-->2

Gonna be expensive. I think 6 is most likely, Colts need more picks. There was a report that the Giants have 3 guys they like that aren't QBs: Barkley, Chubb, and another guy I can't remember. They know the Browns, the Jets and us are going QB, Denver could, too. If they have the #6 pick and the draft goes QB,QB,QB, Barkley, unknown, they know they can still get one of those three. 4 or 5 would be better, though.

5 Might be doable, but it depends on if the Broncos want a QB, or more importantly if they want the 4th QB taken. They could also trade up to 2.

Shaq in his prime was a beast in the low post and dominant on the boards. We could probably get something for him even though his best years are behind him...

He's only two years out

No one is going to give them anything for Shaq.

Didn't Ragaland get a 2nd? If he did then I bet Shaq can

ESPN insider article has a projection of this class' QB's, some tidbits

 http://www.espn.com/nfl/insider/story/_/id/22870189/2018-nfl-draft-projecting-booms-busts-top-quarterback-prospects

Allen has an obscenely powerful arm, but it's a howitzer without a targeting system. He completed just 56.3 percent of his passes last year. Here is the list of quarterbacks chosen in the top 100 picks since 2005 despite having a completion rate below 58 percent in their final college season: Andrew Walter (2005), Jake Locker (2011), Christian Hackenberg (2016), Connor Cook (2016) and C.J. Beathard (2017). That's it.

Top 10 in QBASE since 1997

Philip Rivers

Carson Palmer

Donovan McNabb

Baker Mayfield

Russell Wilson

Peyton Manning

Marcus Mariota

Byron Leftwich

Aaron Rodgers

Ben Roethlisberger

The lessons of history can at least help us figure out how much of a risk each quarterback prospect will be. That's the point of Football Outsiders' Quarterback-Adjusted-Stats-and-Experience (QBASE) projection system. It looks at college performance, experience and expected draft position (to incorporate scouting information that college stats will miss). To allow some time for development, QBASE projects a quarterback's efficiency (passing only) in Years 3-5 of his career, according to Football Outsiders' defense-adjusted yards above replacement (DYAR) metric. 50,000 simulations produce a range of potential outcomes for each prospect, with players drafted later generally having a larger range of possibilities.

Right on cue, Josh Allen continues to be remarkably inaccurate during his pro day

I'm 100% convinced Allen or Allen's agent knows people because the NFL network is absolutely blowing this guy right now and he's missing every deep ball he's had. Misses the deep route 3 times in a row 'That's just a perfect throw.' HOW?? He missed it!

I'm reasonably convinced that Allen's agent was behind those "the Bills want Allen" rumors.
