Sabres Pick #52: Justin Bailey

This one should pacify the masses a bit.

This "pacifies" nothing.

What am I, as a fan, supposes to say?

"Oh thank you Darcy for picking a local boy with high 3rd line, """potentially""" low 2nd line potential..................................?

Just another wasted pick from a potential package that would have made a true impact in my mind.

And mind you, I'm not stating that Bailey isn't worth the position, I'm stating the GM totally blows when it comes to attempting to build a championship steam.

I'm not happy this pick even still exists with our absence of "FRANCHISE" players abundantly clear for all to see, especially their competition..........think on that for a moment

Every pick at that spot is the same in terms of potential. Might as well grab the local kid. And from personal knowledge, he's a kid with character. If he makes the team someday, great; he's not going to be a Chippewa hanger.

@ 52 we probably took the best player available. Justin Bailey can be a solid top 6 player. I think he has a lot of character an a lot of class. Being selected by the sabres should only drive this kid harder. I think he does become our #2 RW down the road. If not, not much of a better player available outside of maybe Artturi Lehkonen

FC Profile on Bailey:

JUSTIN BAILEY

POSITION: Right Wing

SHOOTS: Right

TEAM: Kitchener (OHL)

BORN: July 1, 1995

VITALS: 6’-3” / 185 Lbs

STATS: 57 GP 17 G 19 A 36 PTS 34 PIM

SCOUTING REPORT: Bailey is an athletic specimen with real NHL upside. He skates well with powerful stride that produces good amounts of speed, impressive first step acceleration and

outstanding directional mobility. His speed helps him close in on opponents in a real hurry on the forecheck as well as getting to loose pucks. He generates chances off the rush and is able to stickhandle through traffic.

He’s also able to surprise goaltenders with a quick shot, as he has a very good release and velocity on his wrister. Bailey displays good vision and makes accurate passes of varying distances, uses his strong frame and long reach in his puck protection as he glides to the net. He has his moments, but for the most part does not play with much physical consistency.

He has a bad tendency to watch the puck on his stick as he moves through the neutral zone which can be devastating if defenders step up on him. Despite his frame, Bailey

can be easily knocked of the puck as he is still a little spindly in the legs. This will undoubtedly improve with added strength and muscle mass. Simply put, Bailey is a player with some very impressive tool but will need time to put it all together.

NHL POTENTIAL: Top 9 Power Forward

• Buffalo grabbing local boy Bailey has a nice ring to it. The kid is big (6-4, 185), has sweet hands in tight and shows bright flashes of intensity. Unfortunately, those are surrounded by episodes of “where did he go?” No doubt he’s a project (probably four-five years), but Bailey could be a big part of the Sabres’ future.

For SB XXVI, the seat cushions came w/ a little roll book of Bailey's INT of Elway to seal the AFC Championship. How sweet would it be if Bailey snagged an attempted pass from Stastny in Game 7 in '17 and buried it for the GWG and then when the banner went up on opening night in October the Sabres gave out a similar booklet?

Some people might want additional info...Is that against the rules?

Figured somebody would since we're not all Hockey "Insiders"

No. Why the hate man? Just surprised it wasn't in the form of a tweet. /jab
