He may be traveling to Boston, but its a high ankle sprain. He will be out atleast 5 to 6 days. Had one myself and I'm in great shape. Went to see a specialist and its the same thing, at multiple referrels from Doctors, the quickest is normally 5 to 6 days.

He is just traveling to Boston as a just in case he can play sceniario, mark my words, Vanek doesn't play in either games in Boston. He may have a shot at game 5 in Buffalo, but even then, he won't be 100%.

I didn't hear it was a high ankle sprain...yuck. Those can keep you out for a while. I think this took out half the Bills' defense several years ago, too.

Based on the reports, I had the feeling he *may* not play tonight, but would almost certainly be in the lineup on Wednesday. I can live with him not playing tonight, but if he's skating at all, I'd love it if he was in the lineup for Game 4.

So...maybe the poll should be "Who would you rather have - 100% Stafford, 100% Gerbe, or an 85% Vanek?"

No one has said it's a high ankle sprain except folks on this board. If that's what it is, he's not coming back in this series--it's at least a 4 week thing, not days. So either Vanek and Ruff are flat out lying--which is possible, it's hockey-- or it is not a high ankle sprain. Normal lower ankle sprain, and if not too bad, he could be back late in the series--maybe. But the stuff Vanek was saying about waking up and feeling fine makes no sense at all unless it is a very minor sprain(or just soreness), which seems unlikely given the limp.

I would say, if it is a minor lower ankle sprain, game 6 is possible. If it's not a sprain but just soreness, maybe Friday. Anything more than a minor sprain, and I think he's gone for the series. High ankle, gone for the playoffs, unless we go very deep.

I'm torn between 85% Vanek and 100% Gerbe, pretty much because 85% of Vanek this time of year is just a waste of a roster spot, unless he's deployed only to tie-up Boston's checking line.

100% Stafford is 100% useless.

The ironic thing is that Gerbe isnt afraid to go up against Chara  Kennedy and Ennis would be flicked like a pesky fly.

Watching the replay of the game 2 yesterday, the opportunites for Vanek or Connolly to step into someone and polish them is countless.

Do we think The News is smart enough to say it's a high ankle sprain (when it really isn't) just to deceive the Bruins?

Those links don't say that. Harrington now says we can suppose it is a bad ankle sprain--but it's conjecture. If it's a severe high ankle sprain, he's done for the year, and he's a fool to travel to Boston. Bottom line, we don't know what it is--either a big lie is going on and Vanek's done, or the injury is not what is speculated. I'd say it's 50/50.

That would be unethical from a reporting perspective. My guess is that they just don't know, so they speculate because they've heard of a high ankle sprin before. My guess is that it's a regular lower sprain, which will heal much more quickly, but will take a while anyway. But a lower sprain with rest, treatment, ice, then heat and then tons of tape--he could be back by next Monday.

I don't have a link but I just read in the Cuckoo Town Press that Boychuk actually sharpened his stick before the game and was literally trying to chop Vanek's leg off.

When asked, Boychuk said,"what better way to get him out of the series, really, than removing his leg. I guess there is always next game."

Is it 7p yet? :wallbash:

I chose back by Wed. but that is probably more me hoping for him to return than when he actully will. I still haven't seen anything about it being a high ankle sprain, that's just grasping. Hopefully it's nothing more than a deep bruise, which could enable him to be back soon. VANEK has been tearing it up the last few games and hopefully his confidence will remain high when he does return. BTW I wouldn't count on TIMMAY picking up the slack, he hasn't scored a playoff goal in 19 consecutive games and with the way he's looked, the streak will continue.

LOL! Mair and Ellis are sharpening their sticks to a point. When they impale two Bruins, it could be 2 minutes each for spearing--maybe 4 if they hit a vital organ. Doubtful it would be a major though, playoff hockey and all.

That is what was posted on nhl.com yesterday. Now when you click on full story, a different story appears. I'm pretty sure it was on the News page too but has since been deleted. Injuries and the playoffs -- weird things happen.

Good point...I wasn't trying to accuse The News of anything, but since everything is so secretive with regards to injuries in this sport - especially in the playoffs - it wouldn't have surprised me.
