Dominic Moore to Buffalo for a 2nd

If that is true then we basically traded Kotalik for Moore? Since they're both UFA's I think that is an upgrade.

I agree. Only negative is that Moore is a lot smaller than Kotalik. But since Kotalik only played like a big boy occasionally it shouldn't be too big of a deal. We needed another solid face-off guy besides Gaustad so overall I like this move.

Also, is this the busiest DR has ever been at the trade deadline? I'm his number one critic, but this wasn't a horrible day by any means.

It looks like they did do more today than most teams, in terms of actual completed deals. But to say he was any more busy today than any past day seems like a bit of a stretch. Just because no deal is made, it doesn't mean that they weren't talking the whole day. I'll go as far as to guarantee that basically every GM is talking non-stop today regardless of whether they make a deal or not. They need to be well aware of what is going on around the league.

Understatement of the century. A floating shootout specialist for a competent 2-way player. I'm not sure how this looks with all the other moves by all the other teams but turning Kotalik into Moore is near genius.

Extend Moore and I'll like it a bit more.

Either way having Moore on the team rather than Kotalik for the next few months sits well with me.

Yeah, I agree. I meant busy in terms of actual getting deals done. It was a lot more than I expected. He got a UFA signed multi-year, addressed our needs upfront with a solid faceoff center playing for a contract, and moved an underperforming uninspiring forward that wore out his welcome. We didn't pick up a Nik Antropov or Mark Recchi caliber player, but DR didn't do bad.

And don't forget about filling a serious hole in the current roster with Tellqvist.

TSN did say Kotalik to Edmonton for a second that they are getting in the other (separate, sort of) deal with Carolina.

So, basically, we traded Kotalik for Moore. I can live with that.

Edit: oops, I missed page 4 of this thread. My final statement stands.

The team needs to win in regulation now - get the 2 points and keep the other team with 0. So picking up a player that hopefully will give you more during the first 60 minutes rather then in the shoot out is worth the trade.

I thought DR said he wasn't in the market for rentals. A 2nd for Dominic Moore? Seriously?

Maybe they only made this trade after knowing the Kotalik trade was going to happen for sure? And clearly wouldn't have done so otherwise.

Right - actually saves a little money this year. Perhaps they also try to sign Moore for a little less or equal to what Kotalik was making since I'm sure Kotalik will want a raise.

How did Guerin go for a 3rd or a 4th, but Dominic Moore cost us a 2nd? What am I missing here?

My guess is he didn't want to go to just any team and is a UFA at the end of this season so he was probably looking to get:

On a good team

Playoff contender

try to make bank somewhere else when season ends

And I don't think NYI wanted to have to worry about him when they have a total of 21 UFAs/RFAs this offseason.

Yup... and Toronto liked Moore, who's younger. If they didn't get an offer they liked, they would have kept him and tried to re-sign him again later on. NYI had no interest at all in bringing back Guerin.

Guerin is 38, Moore is 28.

They are both pending UFA's so the potential amount of time they spend with their new team is equal. Are you trying to tell me that Moore is a better player than Guerin, so he fetched a better pick? Who cares who old they are.

A couple notes on Moore...66 hits in 60+ games and a 54.8% on faceoff.

This would be a good pick up if it were a accent piece to a larger pickup. Moore for Kotalik doesn't make this a playoff team. It's pretty much as it was discussed in a previous thread. They had a 3+ hour meeting to tell the players no help is coming.
