I know there is the injury issue but there’s also a decent chance in 6 months he’s back to being a top 10 nhl player. It would be absurd to trade him for that Columbus package. We CANNOT have another ROR trade. That will set this franchise back years…

I’m done bowing to players. If Sam wants to be here great. I’m not making him the priority of a Jack Eichel trade. If I’m trading the whale I’m getting the best return possible. Be that futures or present players IMO.

Ok if Beniers has a Cirelli floor then that may be the guy I want. That’s not what I’ve read though. All I want is the sabres to take the guy who will end up the better player in a couple years regardless of position. If it’s Beniers then that’s great but I’m not passing on Power simply because I have a Bryson or Samuelson. Those guys are far from locks and I’m done relying on a bunch of unknown non top 5 draft picks.

I know this is a Power thread so I will check out the Beniers thread next. Saying that, you will never convince many who want Power that we should go Beniers because we have drafted D in the recent past and can’t score. But I would love to hear the attributes of each player and why you feel Beniers should be the pick. I’m very open to a 2-way centre but all I keep hearing as don’t pick Power because we have Dahlin. That’s not a very worthwhile conversation IMO.

What do you mean drivers of play? I would argue the D making the initial outlet pass out of the zone would actually be more of a ‘driver of play.’

If Beniers reminds you of Patrice Bergeron I want to have that conversation. Please elaborate. Nobody who wants Power will even entertain your first point. Our D has been God awful for years now. We have a couple maybes who were late first or non first round picks in our system. They’ve played a handful of games on a terrible team playing meaningless games. Sorry if I’m not going to assume these kids are going to be NHL players. Let’s not over estimate their abilities and assume that we are all set at that position. Isn’t that exactly what we’ve been doing over and over again (along with horrendous drafting).

I would definitely be interested in a D. I really don't think our D is so good and have so many defensive prospects coming that you would exclude them due to position. IMO Colorado has an unbelievable top line but it's their top 4 that drive their offense IMO. I wouldn't mind copying that model.

To be fair I also agree that not doing anything in the off-season with goaltending was his worst blunder and I’ve shouted that from the rooftops. What was concerning with this decision was that Eakin vs Larry looked like a bad decision from an analytics perspective from the very moment he signed and that’s exactly how it played out. So it begs the question: is Nightengale terrible at his job as head of analytics or does KA not give a ***** about analytics altogether. Both situations are very concerning in their own right.
