I sure hope the Sabres are willing to include this. No way you can move a $10 mil player and get the return you feel is fair without taking some money back. I understand pegulas hesitancy to do that based on past deals but it is too important for a trade this big. Without adding money we will end up with ROR trade and then I’m going to light all my sabres gear on fire. So financially, it’s probably better to take on some money now. The only way the Sabres become profitable is if they start winning and making the playoffs. We need a good return for Jack. Whatever it takes.

Agreed. I just don’t see why we couldn’t take on shorter term cap dumps. We have tons of cap space and will likely not be competitive for atleast two years. Why wouldn’t we add a couple of those to maximize return? I agree with you that I have no desire to eat $3 mil for Jack for 5 more years. I’ll take back $7 or $8 for next two years though.

But if the difference between having a top prospect like krebs included or not is based on taking back salary then they are spending it wisely on useful players. Krebs or another top prospect is in your system now and that was a useful way to spend the cash.

Could the alternative not be to take back bad contracts for a shorter length of time? Hard to believe a team would demand retention in Jack salary and not consider other high priced roster players instead to make the cap work.

Does Terry not see how this burned him so badly on that ROR trade? He must be embarrassed at how that transpired no? Learn from your mistakes man!! Also, I think the Sabres should be looking to take back a couple of shorter term bad contracts to help the other team out, rather then retaining salary on Jack. One way or another, the Sabres cannot expect a team to take on all $10 million in a flat cap. Take back a couple of contracts and maximize your return Terry! KA may not be calling the financial shots but he also has Terry's ear.

How are the Sabres expected to just start winning? What is Adams suppose to do? I think he is trying to take that path but it's obviously not going to happen over night....

What would be the obvious path? Eichel is a pretty polarizing player (especially the past few months). I can see them really pushing Cozens, Dahlin (Power when he's here) etc. to be involved in the community. Let's be honest, this may be one of the most hated Sabres teams ever. There's no question they have to rebuild their relationship with the community.

The locker room will be fine. It's much more important to make a good trade for Jack. If that involves him starting the season with Buffalo then so be it.

That's why it's so crucial to get a nice haul for Eichel (looking at you Krebs or Zegras) and add a high draft pick next year. Alot of the pieces to this 'new rebuild' are in place or could be soon. I like the point you mentioned in another thread. This Eichel trade is just so key because if we can get a nice return the 'rebuild' may be nearing completion by 2023. If this turns into an ROR trade it will likely be more like 2025 before they are ready to compete.

Does it even really matter? If they trade him there is zero shot at the playoffs (not that there's much hop e now). So if you keep him and he's a distraction, who cares? In fact, I could see the team really sucking even with Jack so maybe it's better the media peppers everyone with Jack questions rather then why does this team continue to suck and your ruining Cozens running him out there against every other teams top line etc. etc.

Right? This would allow Cozens to play somewhat protected and Mitts centering the third line where he belongs.
