  1. I would think player safety should review that but who knows. Losing a great player like that hurts the Wild and the league.
  2. Comrie should go full Patrick Roy and say this is his last game. No big loss.
  3. Interesting fact, Yaniv Perets is from Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec. Same town as Levi.
  4. Dryden had spent the season in the AHL before his late season stint and playoffs. It would be awesome if he drew in to a game, won convincingly and stayed in the net. Conn Smythe, Stanley Cup and Calder Trophy the following season is a pretty high bar.
  5. I’m sorry but I am mixed on this. Just let it happen, either way is OK.
  6. Bryson not taking the shot late last game and giving the puck away has not left my mind. He has become my and others whipping boy this season, which I think is deserved. Bryson is small for an NHL Dman, I think we can all agree on that. Many Dmen that size need to be highly skilled to make it to the NHL. Bryson has never been an offensive dynamo, in junior A, NCAA, AHL or NHL. He has produced some points at the lower levels but not like a Torrey Krug or Sam Girard. I find he doesn’t have enough offensive skill to compensate for his defensive weaknesses. He needs to be 8 Dman or AHL all star next year for this team to be improved. KA needs to add via trade, UFA or college FA. I will lose it if this guy is 6-7 next year, never mind be out at crucial points of a must win game.
  7. Leinonen must have impressed them at some aspect(s) of the goalie position. I agree he was taken too early, would’ve probably been available in the 3rd round. The only justification I can see is he was their must have goalie and other teams were looking at him early as well. The only positive I can think of is the long runway goalies have. He may make it. I still want Levi to be the man, just like the whole package.
  8. Elliot Friedman’s 32 Thoughts link. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/32-thoughts-wrapping-up-the-nhl-trade-deadline/ One interesting thought is the return of the Chychrun trade. A few people think there is no way Arizona gets comparable performance from those draft picks. This is similar to what Brisebois was saying in justifying his multiple picks for Tanner Jeannot. One source is Twitter linked in the article. It is a university thesis on the inefficiency of the NHL draft. It is fairly long but I read through it and it has conclusions we kind of guess at but provides a level of evidence to support it. The study was based on the NHL draft from 2007-2014. It is called NHL Draft Biases. Main conclusions were: The NHL undervalues prospect points. Scoring at the lower levels is more likely to predict scoring in the NHL. Hoping for a guy to develop a scoring touch later on doesn’t work. Size doesn’t matter. Shorter prospects tend to outperform taller prospects that are picked in a similar range. Later born prospects (July-September) outperform their birth year. Older kids get picked more because they have played better at the lower levels due to age, size, maturity etc… Nationality has no impact on performance. He looked at N.Am. vs non N.Am. Penalty minutes are overvalued by NHL teams. High PIM underperform low PIM players when picked in the same range. The NHL sees this as toughness/grit but the skill level is lower leading to fewer games played and lower points. Re-draft status, players picked in the next year of eligibility outperform players picked in the same range who are in their first year of eligibility.
  9. Not sure I like Greenway on the top line. Maybe he gives TNT & Skinner more room to dance. He doesn’t look to have the speed to keep up with them. Maybe the strategy is to have him crash the net and create enough chaos for the others to find holes or clean up rebounds. Mule and Stillman add some much needed physicality. Bryson will not be missed. Let’s go Buffalo!
  10. Matt Savoie draft year: 90 points in 65 games 1.38 pts/g Dylan Cozens draft year: 84 points in 68 games 1.24 pts/g Matt Savoie D+1 year: 83 points in 56 games 1.48 pts/g Dylan Cozens D+1 year: 85 points in 51 games 1.67 pts/g I would like to add that Savoie is trending up since January and should end up over 1.5 pts/g.
  11. I hope the Sabres take a stab at one or two of these guys. They usually don’t amount to much but you can find the odd keeper. At worst, Rochester gets a body or two. The list may change, this was published in the fall. There are others who may have had breakout seasons.
  12. It would be nice for him to go another streak and hit 30 to elevate his trade value. I’m sure the streak will start if they get eliminated from the WC spot.
  13. Wow, I wasn’t aware when Sorokin had been taken. Sabres would be in a different tier with him between two pipes.
  14. Karlsson was shut out last night but so was Dahlin. Rasmus looks banged up and I think he is playing because of the Wild Card status. He may shut it down if the Sabres get eliminated. This would definitely hurt his chances, no playoffs and fewer games played. Hopefully it is something that gets better, but I think the rest is what he needs.
  15. That is just disturbing. There is just something comforting about a hot bowl of soup on a cold winter day.
  16. Exactly. I am not a rules guru but it was a kicking motion that led the puck to go in. Any part of the leg is involved in this motion. Your take on not wanting players to kick at pucks is bang on. Knives on their feet, don’t need to make it more likely of a bad cut.
  17. How about the entire staff of the NHL war room in Toronto? I need some more time before I can think of forgiving these guys.
  18. Exactly. The Sabres were not skating, they lacked energy. The Islanders are battle tested and we’re waiting for this game. The Sabres were not able to play their game. Two periods were what the Isles wanted, dump and chase, cycle the puck and clog up the neutral zone. Sabres aren’t dead but this is a big loss. Not much rest time coming either.
  19. Savoie with 1G 1A so far, game is in the third. I would rather be looking at the Sabres playoff chances but…
  20. Plus all the hooking, grabbing and stuff that will slow the Sabres down is allowed.
  21. War room in Toronto overturned it. Refs initial call was no goal. Still bull….
  22. They need to find some energy. They are much faster than the Isles so they’ve got to stretch them out and open up the game. Dahlin is a key player to getting the puck out and put them on their heels. The Isles goal just gave them a big lift. Get the next one and let them struggle to find offense.
