  1. The ROR trade was never about Tage Thompson. He may have been someone JB asked to have thrown in, but the main targets were the vets. Back then, we were operating under the assumption that all the kids needed to succeed was “veteran presence”.
  2. I also think there’s a clear distinction between yelling and abuse. In fact, in my profession, which was considerably abusive during training, there was little/no yelling involved.
  3. I think it depends on the context of the yelling. I’m sure McDermott (or any coach) is yelling or yelling at specific players constantly during team practices and games. But, I don’t see this happening once off the field (or ice). I can’t find a reason for a GM to be yelling at employees.
  4. I get it, but do you need to go rewatch that Skinner-assisted goal by Tage in Detroit?
  5. Lol. Maybe the beer emoticon wasn’t quite the best response.
  6. Sounds like a coaching issue. Amerks and Sabres coaching should have similar philosophies and practices.
  7. Could be a new Tank Technique. GMTM would swiftly trade them away. Now? They’re all injured and can’t rush the healing process.
  8. Would’ve loved to be sitting at that dinner between Tuch and KA.
  9. This is probably closer to the truth, which I don’t think we have a firm grasp on, nor will we ever. Let’s say KA tells Jack he wants to rebuild. The first question a reasonable person would have is “as the most talented player on the team, where the heck do I fit into this?” I doubt KA meant to strip everything to the studs, while keeping Jack still on the team. That’s not a real rebuild. Maybe there were some nonverbal cues that made Jack feel unwanted, he threw a fit, and demanded that HE was going to be the one calling shots and demanded a trade.
  10. Correct. The corollary to #1 was this divorce was never about which surgery. Jack had decided he wanted to leave well before he was injured. It was the agent-control media that decided the narrative would be about which surgery and how the Sabres were blocking him. However, I agree with the Sabres. Why assume the risk when the player already decided to leave? Plus, they were never blocking his medical choice.
  11. Oooh. They listened!!
  12. It wouldn’t matter. It’s past Nov 1st and waiver order is no longer based on last season’s record.
  13. I’ll go out on a limb here, but I think he meant he wants to enjoy a live hockey game watching future Sabres rather than watching highlights on Twitter from his bedroom.
  14. We should send them a 5th for Johan. We could use his defense at this point. Winning should not be tolerated.
  15. Is it though? The jettison of Eichel was sort of forced, but he fought to get a decent return. He could’ve completely f’d that situation up. And letting Risto and Rhino go? Took some courage to trade away these decent players and he got fair return. Not only tearing apart, he has also reshaped the front office with Karmanos and the analytic hires. Plus, the drafting so far looks good. These moves tell me that he’s willing to listen and take advice. That’s a huge character value in a GM and am cannot be undervalued.
  16. It seems all of our prospects are blowing up. One guy I haven’t heard much about is Isak Rosen. What’s the story here? Trouble acclimating?
  17. I think KA has proven that he is at least competent. There’s nothing obviously wrong with that way he is approaching his GM duties. Considering he was promoted within and thoroughly vetted, I don’t think there’s going to be integrity or character issues that are going to pop up. Based on this, while we don’t know whether this will translate into success, I do think he has earned the benefit of doubt to stick around for at least 5 years. Of course, he will sink of swim based on Granato (ie his ability to develop talent). I don’t think it’s going to be due to his ability to build a team.
  18. Pretty sure this is just Brisson/Jack getting a jab in on the way out the door. We have now seen Friedman was just Brisson’s puppet. Just anecdotes to make a point. I’m sure there were also plenty of players who said the opposite. Plus, those naysayers would undoubtedly change their tune when presented with a multi-million dollar contract to play for a contender. That, and people have short memories.
  19. Me too. But I don’t want the GK to win. I want them battling for the playoffs, but not making it. That gives us a nice pick in the 10-15 range.
  20. Marinate on this: Jack couldn’t hold Hasek’s jock and likely never will. Hasek battled with his team for years, elevated his team, and did so much for the community. While Jack has done some nice stuff in the community, he’ll never accomplish what Hasek did on the ice.
  21. Get ready for the “we have too many draft picks and we can only have 50 contacts, so trade them” arguments
  22. Well, Housley is currently a 3-star General of Tank Command in Arizona. If history repeats itself, and it always does, Housley should be out of a job within the next 1-2 years. Maybe he can come back?
  23. No salary retained. At least we get to look forward to the rumors coming out over the next few years on what we could’ve had if some salary was retained.
