How would using this money to extend Rhino over signing Hall have improved the team over the previous year? Remember, Jack was growing impatient (as well as Terry) day by day and may have already floated the tree idea. We needed to add talent, not maintain it. It didn’t work out, but signing Hall was infusing MVP level talent.

I agree. Seems funny to say, but we’re further along in our rebuild than the Oilers. I still think they should build around McDavid, but should move Leon for multiple parts. They are a team with just one good line and the rest is inept, so they need depth. Similar to where we were a couple years back. I don’t think McDavid is tradable though. No team would be willing to give up what would be needed to pry him out. We had a hard enough time with Jack.

Your Ideal Sabres Lineup for the Remainder of This Season?

I would switch Cozens with Thompson. -
Good point. Wonder if these are the same types of injuries players “play through” on great teams, and especially during the playoffs.

He’s done being developed. He has nothing else to prove in Rochester. This is the time to get him warmed up for next year. He can’t do that in the AHL.

Effective or ineffective. Doesn’t matter, because it was a signing that needed to happen. We had a HC in a “show me” year and a league star becoming increasingly disgruntled. Adams gave them that one last chance to pull their crap together. The adding of a former league MVP was a sound decision. Kevyn succeeded here. It was the team that failed. Besides, without the Taylor Hall Curse, we would never have drafted Power.

I haven’t a clue. Had surgery on Dec 10th, so this has been a fairly quick recovery.

Is he leading stretches?
-
Yes, he had surgery in early December.

There was talk about this on the hit that Borden avenged during the Seattle game. It was a clean hit, but Borden still smacked the crap out of him. Will make them to think twice before laying a hit, even if it’s clean. -
Or, maybe some of these parents are just extremely overbearing. You have to wonder where Lambert’s motivation comes from and what effect it has had to get him to where he is today. Parents motivating their kids works at younger ages. However, these kids won’t be able to excel without having their own motivation at older ages. Maybe that’s what we are seeing here. Either way, he’s definitely one to avoid in the draft. Too many red flags and no production to excuse them.

Would you allow his dad to sit in on the interview?

If this is like some private equity firms out there, they invest in companies just to bleed them dry. Money now is worth much more than money gained in a sale at some nebulous date in the future. They’ll leverage them up to pad their wallets then dump them out. This is basically what happened to Toys R Us, Fantasy Island, Albertsons, and many more. Of course, maybe not all of them are evil, but they won’t be investing in the Sabres to have a seat at the hockey decision table. They won’t care. I agree with the gambling side. That revenue may be the only reason for their investment, not capital gains on a future sale.

Who’s the number 1 center in this draft? Seems like there’s some very good players, but I’m not seeing them being much different than what we already have. Maybe Wright, but he’s been underwhelming.

Amerks Alternate Captain Sean Malone out for 6 weeks after Surgery

Taking a play out of the Sabres playbook. He’ll have his surgery, but then will slip into the “month-to-month” regime. -
Not only haven’t we seen the peak of Mitts or Tage, we haven’t even seen Mitts period. Guy has been MIA. Both our acting 1C (Tage) and the person who was supposed to be our 1C/2C (Mitts) have missed significant time due to injury. It’s not just Covid screwing our season, it’s never ending injuries. Then we have one of our top 6 wingers acting like he probably shouldn’t be playing due to injury.

The night is young.

Me neither. Anyone know if he’s just like a better Reinhart?
-
You have a point. There’s a guy in this coming draft lacking generational talent, but who is the consensus top pick. But next year, they’ll be 2 generational talents. Next year is the true prize. I think I’ve heard this story before.

I don’t think we are looking at just “bad luck” with this string of goalie injuries. I can’t imagine these are all just freak accidents, but rather indicative of something more systemic. Why can’t our goalies stay healthy? Is it a training or strength coach issue? Are teams more likely to target our goalies? All I can say is Thank God we didn’t sign Ulmark or someone with a similar price tag. They’d be injury report fixtures by now.
