  1. There is not a single, solitary statistical argument to be made that Bradford is meaningfully better than Hill. If pro personnel guys want to hang their hat on a tool set or what they saw in college they're more than welcome to, but I'll hang mine on his five pro seasons.
  2. Eichel centering Gaudreau and Saad at practice. I don't care what anyone says about why this tournament exists, you can't convince me this won't be fun to watch.
  3. Interesting approach. I have chosen to dislike Speed because Qwk likes it :p
  4. Funny, that's one of the goses I tried last night.
  5. Hold the phone here. Are you calling JJ a white supremacist? While I think his views on race are misguided and ultimately incorrect, he's not within a star system of being a white supremacist. If you honestly believe this, it's time for you to go back and review some history.
  6. I think the issue is compounded this election because even among Republicans, there aren't a ton of big time Trump supporters. So we have a thread that's left of center generally, and an election where those right of center are less inclined than usual to engage due to their candidate. Any voices from the right are going to stand out more than usual.
  7. Tonight I am diving into the world of gose. And while I cannot say I share the passionate hatred of the style with Smell, nor would I be willing to toss Liger from the Skyway should he make it to the Sabrespace meetup for insisting the style is good, I will say I don't think it's for me.
  8. I don't think they're a contender with Bradford at the helm. Their defense is good, but it's not last year's Broncos or 2013 Seahawks good.
  9. The problem is, you never think race is the issue. I can't remember a single debate where you took the side of race being a factor. I've got bad news for you: for the same crimes with similar evidence, African American defendants are more likely to be convicted and receive harsher sentences upon conviction. In cases where it's an option, prosecutors are more likely to seek (and get) the death penalty. These hold true after controlling for socioeconomics. Want some citations? Willing to read a thousand pages of peer-reviewed research on the matter? And that's without even getting into issues of mandatory minimums and why some things like crack are treated as a criminal justice problem whereas heroin is being treated as a public health issue. You can continue to whistle in the wind because you don't want to accept an uncomfortable truth that race still matters, or you can get informed about the issue and confront the difficult reality. But I'm really sick and tired of you pretending race doesn't matter every single time it's brought up. Some is indeed subjective. But our criminal justice system? Absolutely not subjective. The evidence is clear and consistent over long periods of time: race matters, and not trivially.
  10. Sam Bradford's ability to get handed starting jobs and big money will never cease to amaze me.
  11. And for whatever it's worth, I saw coverage typical of a "normal" natural disaster: news cycle for a couple of days, then it drifts away (on TV anyway). I don't think the disparity in coverage has a lick to do with a lack of named storm. Death toll and human and infrastructure failures in preparedness and response are what drove coverage of Katrina. Right or wrong, those things drive interest and coverage.
  12. On the meta point, I don't think you're entirely out to lunch. But I also don't think the immediate wake of disaster is the time to berate people for where they live.
  13. Football, yes. Sports, no. The basketball team, after all, is usually at least competitive in the MAC and they did just make back to back tournaments. I think hockey could work in a big way.
  14. Maybe not literally anyone, and maybe not 7, but yea. The Republicans absolutely should have been the favorites against Hillary.
  15. So, you don't like jurists? ;) I will make a response to your longer recent posts, but won't have time until later (and even then...Stranger Things calls). Honestly though, my remark was simply a crack about how the Kaepernick thing is just another example of how Americans neither think ideologically nor apply broad principles very effectively to specific policies. Anti-PC crusaders become PC zealots when the flag is the political correctness in question, while those who freak about broad generalizations about welfare recipients are suddenly silent when a broad brush is used to paint police. Obviously exceptions exist, but the general relationship will never cease to amuse me. Edit: The relationship to Haidt is that his work explains some of why this is.
  16. Just remember not to tread anywhere Auston Matthews may have been. Never know how much of his despicable humanity and general sociopathy is contagious.
  17. Yea, I don't see any reason to choose between them.
  18. Though I'd certainly like a better #2, it'll be fine as long as Sammy is healthy. If he's out for any real time though, it gets ugly.
  19. He had more points, right? That's about it. Possession was worse, scoring rate was worse. To be fair, Risto also faced tougher minutes with a worse partner on a worse team. But yea, his numbers weren't better. Edit: reading the article, it was good. He split off the even strength production from PP, took into account ice time and team context. I liked it he mentions 7 years $6M per towards the end. Wonder if thats what Risto is looking for and Murray is hoping more like low 5s?
  20. I've found it all at least slightly amusing, particularly if you look at the contradictions when the discussion is superimposed onto the sides of the political correctness debate. People are a flippin, and they're a floppin, and...I can't bring this rhyme to a satisfactory conclusion.
  21. I just want to take this time to nominate the Las Vegas Dumbnames as the official Sabrespace slang for that team.
  22. First two episodes of Stranger Things last night. I'm hooked. Just want to get home tonight to watch more.
  23. Eh. No way I'm doing the legwork on this, but I don't recall one year deals coming off of an ELC to be all that common. Two year bridge is standard, to my memory.
  24. I hate you. Edit: Though to be honest, if he doesn't have a good offensive year this season (Assuming he gets real time with Jack and isn't stuck centering the fourth line), I'm not sure he ever will.
  25. Correct. Upon further review, I'm fine with it. Even if he has a big year and gets a $3 mil+ payday, he'll be cost controlled when Eichel and Reinhart are coming off their ELCs, as opposed to coming off his bridge then.
