It's gonna be cold from today until wednesday. I'm getting some more pond action.

Last night I stopped at wal mart around midnight to pick up grape hi-c juice boxes. They didn't have grape and no other flavor was desired by my ill gf so I was purposeless at walmart. As I walked to my car the bright yellow neon lights of buffalo wild wings caught my notice. So I checked my phone and sure enough 3 nhl games were still going on. So I grabbed a beer and watched the third periods of Islanders-Canucks and Sharks-Caps. First uninterrupted hockey I've caught in months. And it didn't depress me because nobody was playing Bylsma's awful, soul-sucking, funless brand of hockey! It was really nice to immerse myself in an NHL game again.

Next month! Been doing my season 2 re-watch. WOOOOOOOOOO

And I really do just have these magazines for the articles.

I saw Moonlight again earlier this week. Very deserving of the best picture oscar. Saying that it wouldn't have won without the Oscars So White is a loaded statement. Like, yeah, the Academy probably would've had no problem giving the award to La La Land if it wasn't for the political context. But what the Academy normally does is not any sort of measure of quality or fairness. The Oscars aren't concerned with all movies, they're concerned with prestige films that come out between the months of september and december. Usually (always) white movies by established filmmakers. That said, Moonlight absolutely deserved to win out of this year's crop. Fences is the only other film that's close. I'd probably have picked Fences, but I can understand choosing Moonlight because Fences is very much an expertly adapted play, while Moonlight is a triumph of high art filmmaking. As for being overwraught, I disagree. Read a plot summary of best screenplay winner Manchester-by-the-sea if you wanna calibrate to the Academy's standards. For a movie that engages with the themes of systemic racism, the criminalization of african americans, the war on drugs in the 90s, homophobia, and child abuse; Moonlight is an incredibly optimistic film. It focuses on the human sensitivity of these young people in ways that other films never come close to. As for Oscars So White, the Academy only really acknowledged black and white artists this year. Plenty of other deserving films by minorities were completely forgotten. Off the top of my head, Park-Chan Wook's The Handmaiden deserved a best picture nomination, a cinematography nomination, and a best adapted script nomination; and probably should've won for cinematography. While we're talking Oscar snubs, Amy Adams not getting a best leading actress nomination for Arrival is a joke. Rebecca Hall not getting a nomination for Christine is a joke. And Denzel losing best actor to Casey Abuser Affleck is a joke.

"Bysla just wasn't a good chemistry fit in Buffalo" is going to be thrown around a lot by the poor fans of whatever stupid team hires him next.

Get Out is more than a little similar to The Invitation, which is still on Netflix and still super good.

Get Out is reeaaallly good.

Emma Stone's character spends that scene making fun of him, so it's not played completely straight. And yeah, the sound mixing in La La Land drives me crazy. The voices are never allowed to soar over the instruments.

One more thing about La La Lanada: the worst white people moment is when Ryan Gosling explains why he loves jazz so much. It's soooo labored. It's pretty obvious that neither Damien Chazelle nor Ryan Gosling have ever been into jazz. I would love to see that scene as written by a jazzer.

Rent is so terrible. La La Land is good. Ryan Gosling is not so good but Emma stone is great. They play the theme like 100 times though, so get ready to be sick of it by the end. La La Land got a lot of hate for being a white people movie. Some people claim that this movie yearns for the time when hollywood was ruled by whitefolk. I think that's garbage. That said, everything would have been fine if they had cast michael b jordan instead of gosling. He's only 1 year older than emma stone rather than like 10 years older. And he'd likely have been a lot more charming than wooden man gosling. Not to say Ryan Gosling is bad or anything, just very miscast. I like him in broody colin farrell type roles, like in Drive (even though Drive has soooo many issues). Manchester by the Sea somehow managed to miss all the white people movie rage that la la land soaked up. Going to see Get Out tonight. Hype!

Kyle Williams is a treasure. It's a shame that he never got to play for a team that's worth a damn.

At a residence for people with developmental disabilities. Bradford is autistic and has severe OCD. He enjoys the hell out of life. A couple months ago I couldn't imagine quitting my job. But once our new supervisor took over it's been bad and getting worse. I'm the second to quit in 2 weeks, with more to follow.
