  1. Could be, just walked in checked the score 0-3, then before I could get the TV on it was 4-0 and they were on a PK. Final shot and the guys let their goalie catch a snowstorm. Like Brad May said on the intermission, common guys, deck the guy. Don't let that happen, where is your heart. Stuff like that is why my wife calls me a goon. Not on my watch.
  2. With Chara playing in front of net on PPs, that I think might be the only role forward that Z might have. Otherwise, keep him on D. Still need someone that can move the puck and shoot while on the PP for it to work.
  3. Yah, and if you believe they get edumacated, I have some wings from the Ted Nolan thread they call Buffalo Wings down south.
  4. I disagree, Sports will go back to division III style, except those money makers from their own sales or from corporate sponsorship as the athlete in those big time programs will get paid. The rest will be for the pure love of the sport. Others who have talent, but have no business in college, will go to a D league of some sort right out of high school similar to junior hockey or minor league baseball. Those that want an education will actually get one and not be suckered into performing while not having time to actually get an education because they are too busy working for the NCAA. Read College Sports Inc, by Mo Sperber: who predicted 20+ years ago that the NCAA division 1 would eventually be reduced to 1 or 2 super conferences and the rest the schools would return to something less and more pure, the amateur athlete. We are just seeing one more step in this inevitable process.
  5. Yeh, that was probably an nonsensical statement . That being said, still need to draft up the middle. Two drafts in row getting top line forwards would be nice. Combined with some of the guys coming up the last couple of years and you might have a close to 2 top lines... and I emphasize might, if a couple of those guys as projected pan out. But the dearth of top line talent on this team is amazing. It may take longer than 2 years, just to develop these guys into NHL players. What does the 2016 draft look like
  6. I couldn't disagree with you more. Unless the Sabres can trade the pick to get more picks maybe for next year. They ought to shop it around. Ekblad is not needed on this team, The Sabres for a long time need to draft up the middle and guys who can put the puck in the net. They need more than one guy, really they need two lines worth of guys to compete with whatever is currently left on this team... Any D guys as diamonds in the rough can be probably found in the later rounds maybe out of the USHL or from Europe. If the Sabres draft him though, it definitely is signal that they plan to tank next year. Can't see how they can score with any of this group.
  7. RIP Ralph, Thank you for all the memories.
  8. There are special surgeries for that... involves a proctologist and I am sure with Stafford it is only a matter of time before it passes.
  9. So #joeknownothingabouthockey Sounding like he is more and more part of the reason LaFountaine left.. crap TPegs, time put him in a place in the organization where he can do no harm or give him a nice severance package and tell him to keep his mouth shut.
  10. Only 9 more losses until the Sabres have officially clinched last place or a combination of Edmonton and Florida wins and Sabres losses get us there too. Florida has 1 more point then Edmonton and is playing has bad as the Sabres though they got a point last night. The Isles and Calgary each have 61 points and should be monitored as well losing 7 games or a combination of that gets the Sabres lower than them. Only 4 points in losses or combination and the Sabres clinch 26th place from Carolina.
  11. The more I think about it. Bennett and Draisaitl or if lucky Dal Colle would be awesome. P.S. Only 9 more games and the Sabres can clinch last place. Edmonton won yesterday and are 11 points up. Despite having a game in hand, the Sabres have only 14 more to play. Minus 5 wins (games) or 10 points the Sabres still need only 9 more losses and last place is all theirs...wahh hahh hahh, putting an end to this dreadful weird season. Hopefully it will allow the Sabres to gain the top draft pick.
  12. Interesting breakdown. Still weak in the middle and lacking a little depth on the Lt side D, though not as great a concern. Also, need more RT handed scorers too. Oh heck, just get some guys who can put the puck in the net.
  13. So I was wondering, does not buying out Leino keep the Sabres above the Cap floor? Or if the Sabres do buy him out and sign some reasonable free agents that have a chance down the road to be valuable would that be a better strategy. I am not sure if you consider Tank Nation and finishing last year. Keeping Leino and Stafford probably does insure the Sabres suck next year. Wouldn't it be better to buy them out later next year and are there any prohibitions on the timing of a buyout?
  14. Can we just surrender... ah crap its Montreal, they usually do that first... this year though...
  15. Interesting write up on Rotoworld's NHL draft assessment has the Sabres using 3 number 1s this year picking #1 Sam Bennett, #5 Leon Draisaitl and #28 Conner Bleackley from McKeen’s Hockey Director of Amateur Scouting, David Burstyn http://www.rotoworld...t-leads-the-way 1) Sabres - Sam Bennett Bennett gives the Sabres a heart-and-soul player along the lines of a Rod Brind'Amour or a Jonathan Toews. He is pure character who skates extremely well and can make a difference in all three zones. 5) Sabres via Islanders (Isles have option to defer pick to 2015) - Leon Draisaitl © Isles will likely forgo pick especially considering the strong 2015 draft class. Sabres wisely select Draisaitl, a player who plays a similar game to Mikko Koivu and has the potential to play in a top six while manufacturing strong offensive numbers. 28) Sabres via Blues (Conditional*) - Conner Bleackley Buffalo could move their third first-round pick - or continue to re-stock the cupboard up front. Red Deer captain at just 17, Bleackley is a scorer who has the ability to win pucks, drive the net and do the little things offensively. Gotta think this might be a banner draft should it occur.
  16. Understood from the get go that this was fictitious and factitious and, no, trading what it would take, the kitchen sink for him, when the Sabres likely will get the first this year and a top 5 this year or next from the Isle and possibly the first next year if Tank Nation happens, I wouldn't consider and the above is pretty close to the kitchen sink. That being said in a year as dismally interesting as this one has been, any positive fantasy is nice to dream about, especially getting rid of Stafford. That would make my day.
  17. This is a heckuv a rumor to start and I like the idea. Not sure what Tavares would think, but there is a family connection here and he is from Mississauga, Ont, close by so that might be an attraction. But I wouldn't give up the kitchen sink for him. Stafford and a 1st for him would be fine, that being said, I am not sure Snow would go for as he has been totally bashed on the previous trade down here. He would probably want more, I suppose the Sabres could give him Stewart. I do think this thread should keep the whole idea out there because "you never know."
  18. Yeh, but so Buffalo for the Queen City. It was originally known as Beau Fleuve from what I remember of my history and the English either couldn't or more likely didn't want to understand what the French Trappers were saying and called it Buffalo. Never been a wild Buffalo in Buffalo, NY except maybe in the zoo.
  19. And a loss against Calgary just reinforces the chance for a last place finish. Too bad Edmonton fell apart against the Blues after the first period.
  20. There are a couple: http://thehockeywriters.com/ http://www.nhl.com/i...spectbrowse.htm http://www.tsn.ca/draftcentre/ are three that are good starts. They have rankings but some have more info. Also rotoworld has information as well. Try this... http://www.hockeysfu...uting_services/ If you want a write up on these guys look to the right side and click on the name. You will get a profile on each player. Also International Scouting service: http://www.isshockey.com/ they have Leon ranked 6th.
  21. Yeh, but he was the one who got the stick on Stall's skate that led to the tying goal. Granted Stall went down like a bag of pucks after barely being touched, still he had to know. I was worried last night up until that point the Sabres were playing pretty well. Afterwards it was full on tank. Can't have enough losses this year.
